| Their word processor is still being worked on, but it's called Writely. Google bought the company about 4-6 months ago. |

| Yea, I saw that a few months ago. It's pretty nifty. Very similar to Excel. |

I think it goes without saying that it would be almost entirely internet based and completely free.

This online operating system stuff is freaking brilliant. You wouldn't even need your own computer; you could access your files, your programs, your "computer" from anywhere in the world with an internet connection. Amazing.

Huge load on network infrastructure | Well it's obviously a long way from being feasible (I'm sure the software isn't even close to developed), but seeing the potential for such a system is pretty neat. Obviously, new laws would have to be passed in much the same way they have been passed to deal with the internet.

| I would never want my OS to be online. The security holes would likely be countless. Then there's the fact that without a connection, you don't have an OS. How can you actually want to use this?
I like google and all, but they're just too big for their britches and an OS would be dumb. You say it'd be free, but how do you know. Notice that all other google services use ads. I thought adware was something people tried to stay away from on their OS. So either it'd be ridden with adware, or it would cost money.
I will still laugh at any of you who actually would use a google OS

| My internet connection (256/256Kbps) couldn't handle something like that. I prefer something disk based. Network latency would be a big issue. Apple's .Mac offers Mac users online protected storage accessible from anywhere. It also has other tools for web presence.
But my USB drive works fine for me. I can store a bunch of stuff on it and it's a whole lot quicker and easier than uploading it to the internet. I mean, if you get a 4GB flash drive, you could even boot Linux off of it. |

Adware is software that causes ads that are not agreed to by use of a particular service. Ads are simply something you deal with when you use websites that aren't run by generous wealthy people who just like giving stuff away.
As for speed, internet technology is improving rapidly. Speed will come with those improvements. Google is ranked by Alexa.com as faster than 82% of websites. They also do an exceedingly good job of not loading their sites with crap. Visit google.com and yahoo.com and compare. Yahoo is absolutely loaded with crap. Google is minimalist. On the web, minimalism = speed.
