Yeah, some serious volume there! Great sounding amps though. The Chapel Band electric guitarist at my college last term used an LP through one and got some great tone!

Cleans are phenominal. I havent really had a chance to crank her to get the distortion going.

Here it is

I'll try to get some clips one of these days.

Well, I dont plan on running a distortion pedal. Just slight OD. The OD sounds a bit harsh right now, but like I said, I havent had a chance to crank it yet. I also plan on buying/making a MajTom Attenuator.

I plan on running guitar straight to the amp. Then in the loop, a Volume, an RP-100 (for modulation effects) and 2 delays.

I believe I am also going to put a 12ay7 in the V2 position. From what Ive read...this reduces the gain @ the preamp stage about 40% or more.

This will let the power tubes crank a little.

Am I right in this? Would I just want to change the V2 tube, or is there benefit in changing V1 also...V3 is pretty much part of the power amp AFAIK.

you would be correct. I put a NOS 12AT7 in mine when I had it and there was a noticeable improvement in tone and headroom.

I strongly recommend the lower gain tube in V2 to lower the gain/saturation in the Drive channel. Its not mushy at low gain settings, and the master volume isn't almost maxed out on "4". I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "let the power tubes crank", but the lowered gain in the preamp will not let you drive the power tubes into saturation at lower volumes if that's what you mean.

Hey Tom...Look over there

*runs away*

I guess I thought (that was the problem right there) that the power tubes were directly related to the master volume...thus on the drive channel, with a lower gain, I could push it a bit more, and also push the master more.

Thats what I get for thinking!
