hmm...

Andrew from Project 86, definately...

I don't see why your opinion of them would drop because they tried to heal someone's sight? Do we have no faith in God anymore? I'm sure they weren't just doing it for themselves.

Also, I'm sure that band's song wasn't on the book on the prayer of jabez, but was on the actual prayer of jabez... Which is still an awesome prayer. I don't see anything wrong with asking God to enlarge your territory, especially if territory represents people to witness to.

I agree that the actual craze around the book is a bit out of hand, but it's not that bad... We shouldn't be looking down on other christians that way.

But is that what "territory" means??? Nope!! Jabez simply prayed that God would increase his territory... meaning, his land. (Not that I'm saying there's anything wrong with asking God to give you more people to witness to.... just that Jabez didn't pray for that.)

Luke says:

I might have been okay with it had it been successful. However, as it wasn't, it obviously wasn't of God.

Luke says:

Now let's be reasonable. They just so happened to write the song shortly after the release of the book and just so happened to follow the book's model (as opposed to what a casual reader would ascertain from just reading 1 Chronicles 4:9-10). The song was inspired by the book, not the prayer.

And territory in the actual prayer was land. Period. It wasn't a prayer for more ministry of anything like that. It is improper exegesis to say otherwise. Of course, it's also improper exegesis to say that Jabez was more honorable because of his prayer (the Bible puts these in reverse order), but Dr. Wilkinson does anyway. Dr. Wilkinson must like Tim LaHaye...they both like to take past events and force them into the future.

Luke says:

I'm not "looking down on them". I'm saying that those things are not theologically sound, and you cannot be a theologically sound band if you do theologically unsound things. This is common sense.

well...

Just because the healing wasn't successful doesn't mean that it wasn't from God!

If he wasn't healed, then God didn't intend for him to be healed... That doesn't mean that what they did was wrong... What you are saying is that if he was healed, then it would have been ok for them to do? They did it with good intentions...

Exactly...

Even if Jabez meant just more land, if people interpret this verse as increasing the number of people to witness to, then it is all just the same. It is in God's will for people to interpret this verse in that way, and therefore, it is the purpose of the verse. Regardless of what it meant to Jabez, it may mean something different to us, but it still applies.

To be quite honest..thats kind of dangerous. That is where scripture twisting comes in and we get these weird cults. You have to remember the original context then make application. Land and evangelism are totally different things, I'm not sure you can get that type of application from that verse.

I do think it is great how CCM artists have been crossing over lately, like Stacy Orrico to MTV and now Jaci (Velasquez) to porn. Great news.- Benj

Rich Mullens' music is great, and I'm sure it's an inspiration for many of the Christian artists we listen to. I also think that Switchfoot's music is wonderful, both musically and lyrically, especially on the newest album, Learning to Breathe.

Remember, we're not talking about just who's cool, but who is theologically sound and deep. I'm trying to figure out how Newsboys has been mentioned twice since to say their lyrics are shallow is a gross understatement.

None of their lyrics are deep. Can you think of any that are?
