Really? I've heard them and nothing jumped out at me as particularly amazing. What lyrics are particularly deep (I haven't heard everything they have out)?

oh, man!

Don Chaffer (Don and Lori Chaffer, husband and wife, head up Waterdeep) is the most amazing songwriter alive, in my opinion. They are my favorite band, my favorite CD, my favorite music to play, etc...It's just some amazing stuff. I'll just post one song for you and you can go check out the rest for yourself (http://www.waterdeep.com). I recommend starting out with "Sink or Swim", as it's my favorite CD in the world and the best that they've put out (again, in my opinion ).

And-from Sink or Swim
I am haunted by my love for comparison
My fascination with a single common theme
And I am hounded by the fear that I might be losing it
Slipping from reality into dream

When my mind is muddled by the way it seems to work
I start looking for just one connecting Force
Someone to assure me we that didn't lose the war today
That the battle's General's still riding on his horse

In the mornings when I pray, I've often come to You with dreams
Little bits of power that I can't comprehend
And sometimes I can keep my eyes unclosed for long enough
To see the blowing of a distant steady Wind

The distance doesn't take too long for You to cover it
And when You reach me, You just blow these things apart
You clear the crowd that's gathered 'round the crisis of my soul
And whisper to my suffocating heart

And is the juice of the joints of the motion of life
And is the love that is between God and his beautiful wife
And has two hands and two feet and a long, lovely side
And rose three days after he was crucified

So You're the Force of gravity that I feel pulling at my feet
You're the Fuel at the center of the sun
And, it's your Ghost that fills the atmosphere with what we need to breathe
And, everything I've ever wondered, You're the one

Both my hands are stained with blood
And both my lips are stained with tears
From when I kissed the widow of the man I killed
And, yet You're asking me to swallow Your forgivness here today
You say the bond required for my pardon's been fulfilled

here's one of Lori's...gotta give her credit as an amazing songwriter, too!

I AM-Sink or Swim
I am more than you think
I am more than you know
I'm as black as the darkest night
And whiter than snow
You're tipping through wires and words
And spires and tombstones

I have burned with desire
Felt the air become fire
Buried Myself with stones
Given lions my bones
And I love you whether or not you believe Me

I'm as swift as an arrow
But I'm slow when you stray
I'm as calm as the waters
That we walked on that day
And I love whether or not you believe Me

If you ask Me again My reply still will stand
I am who I am
And I love whether or not you believe Me

Yeah Sundry is a pretty cool band. But I do agre with most everyone else on Caedmons...but to throw in a new one I'd also say Mercy Me.

What do you mean by most theologically sound? It's not a matter of being more or less, it's a matter of either being so or not. Now depth of lyrics is another matter, but if one band's lyrics are more shallow than another that doesn't mean their lyrics are less sound.

Oh BTW, I boast no more is an old hymn not wirtten by Caedmon's Call, they just added the chorus.

No. Anyone who writes a Jabez song absolutely can not win an award for being theologically sound...because they aren't.

Thy Mercy and Laden with Guilt from their newest CD are also hymns, and I think there might be one more.

Well I guess that is your opinion, but mine still stands.

It's kind of hard for me to decide so I will give you three: Newsboys, Delerious, and MercyMe.

Most theologically sound: Shane Barnard, as all his songs are directly out of Scripture.

Most insightful: OC Supertones, always.

Next in line: Rich Mullins (hey, what about "Creed?" that's theology for ya'!)

Bringing up the rear: SCC, as nobody else in the heavy mainstream community has the guys to stand up and speak Truth! (plus he does it in such a Biblical, loving manner!)

Caedmon's Call: Their lyrics and music sometimes clash. i also dislike some of the complex extended metaphors and allegories they create whose meanings aren't deep enough to warrant the intricacy of the employed rhetoric.
