| I think BillPrestonEsq has one, but I don't think it is stock anymore. He's had to do some mods and now likes it. |

| His was the first generation, which had some hum issues or something like that, so he modded it. The second generation doesn't have the same problem.

I have an attenuator for the big rack rig already, but now I can practice in my apartment with no problems from my wife.

| Any chance you could give me some tips on the attenuator?
I have a valve jr now, and agree it sounds great lod, but my neighbors downstairs seem to think differently.
Also if you have an tips or mods. I have some new tubes on the way for it.And may swap out the speaker..I keep forgetting to check the ohm ratings of the spare speakers I have

-Berger | The speaker is a weber signature 8 that is in there stock. I would not switch it.
A major tom attenuator using a stereo 8ohm L-Pad jumpered to 4 ohm mono works lovely. It depends on which version you have as to what mods you need. If you have a late version 1 which I have, grounding the input is a nearly crucial mod. Converting the filaments with a bridge rectifier also helps the hum, though its more expensive. You can add a bright switch by putting a cap in c3 on the board on a switch, though I am thinking of a tone pot instead, though I am unclear as to which yet. I use an old GrooveTubes 12ax7 and a JJel84. You can also add a gain switch and convert the jack to a fender high, instead of the stock low input jack with a resistor swap.

| An Epi VJ at 12o'clock or more is loud enough to be heard from across the street from the house you're in...from 12 on it doesn't really get any louder...just more distorted...
I've got a gain switch modded into mine right now, but I will probably swap that out for the bright switch mod, as mine can be a bit dark on the neck humbucker. I've also got to fix my other one (I put the tubes in backwards on accident....)
The Valve jr is very much a DIY type amplifier. It's great fun to just get in there and mod it how you like it though. And there's something nice about not having to mess with tone controls....

Yes.
There are not that many amps (actually, there are none) that sound as good as this amp, at this price, new.
It is mroe than worth it.
