| 1. M*A*S*H. Best character development of any series ever. Amazing depth. So human. Perfect.
2-10, in no order.
Monty Python's Flying Circus. Legendary. Iconic. Brilliant. Genre-creating. Damn funny.
Law & Order: SVU. Almost as good of character development as M*A*S*H. Brilliant cast.
Star Trek: TNG. Truly great science-fiction. The pinnacle of the genre, for sure. Great cast.
Two and a Half Men. Just a silly sit-com, but has surprisingly deep commentary on the modern world through its hyperbolically-written characters (sex addict, obsequious divorcee, lazy fat kid, bitter ex-lover, etc). The way the writers take these stereotypes to the extremes leads to some really interesting "sit"uations in this silly "com"edy. I've never seen a sit-com with such unrealistically unidimensional characters (though, of course, many rely on stereotypes, but this one takes that idea to extremes), but it actually works really well. It's kind of the opposite of M*A*S*H or SVU.
House. A few seasons isn't really enough to judge the show's longevity, and they've had some serious problems with the writers' strike screwing them up, but the idea is great, different from all the other copy-cat medicine-drama shows, and Hugh Laurie is so good that he could pull off the show by himself with no supporting cast or no script.
Mythbusters. Just a great idea, and it's very well done. A bit hit-or-miss on the myths, though.
The Late Show with David Letterman. Letterman's self-deprecation just appeals to me, and Letterman-Shaffer are easily the best late-night host-musician team.
American Idol. A reality show about something people actually care about.
Charmed. Sure, why not. It's actually really clever and has some great characters.
