Peavey Classic 30

Hey everybody,
This might be cheap, and if so, you can move it off the the CPF or just close it. However, I'm pretty excited about this, so I had to tell someone.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy a Peavey Classic 30 in the next week. I had some free time at work, and I was casually browsing eBay for Peavey Classics. I ran across a Classic 30 that was close to the end of the bidding time and was still relatively cheap. I showed my co-worker it, and he asked me if I was going to bid on it. I said I wasn't 'cause I didn't have a eBay account (at the time) and it would take too long to set up one.

Well, he surprised me by saying he was going to bid on it. Keep in mind my co-worker/friend plays drums, not guitar. So anyways, long story short, he won the bid, and I think I'm going to be buying it from him. Here's a link to the eBay page:

In the end, it wasn't an unbelievably awesome deal, but if it comes in fairly good condition I'll be happy. And I'll finally have the much-sought-after tube tone. I can't wait.

EDIT: Oh! I didn't notice this eariler, but it looks like from the last picture it comes with a footswitch...that'd be one less thing I'd have to buy...I certianly hope it does.

That's not a bad deal. They generally go for anywhere from $300 to $350, and that's usually without the footswitch, so I'd say you did fine.

Some could consider this a resurrection, but I made this thread originally, and I'm just following up on it. I did purchase the amp from my friend, and it just arrived today. Well, actually yesturday, being as it's past midnight, but whatever...

Summed up: I LOVE IT!!! (I don't use exclaimation points or all-caps lightly, peoples). The tone is just so.....amazing. I mean, my Roland Cube 15 is great for portability, being as it's SS, small, and built like a rock, but the sound doesn't really compare to the sound of the Peavey Classic 30. I am sooooo glad I got an all-tube amp. I wish I had the money earlier to get one. Anyways, I'm REALLY happy I purchased it. Oh yay, and it did come with the foot switch. Even more yay!

Now an official tube-snob,

I'd really like a 2-channel tube someday. Instead I've got my 1-channel tube... But I'll survive.

You weren't playing at midnight, were you? Cranking that sucker in the middle of the night at my house would result in some very angry people. Hey, have you cranked that sucker yet?

Ok, I confess, I did play it at midnight. Not too loud, though. At least I didn't think it was too loud.

Well, I didn't dare crank it at night, 'cause I didn't want to wake up my brother, sister-in-law, or my nephew, but this morning I did when nobody was home.

Wow. It's pretty incredible and insanely loud (for me, at least). I got the clean channel up to around 8-9 of maximum 12 volume. The natural overdrive was just so creamy. I love it. Anyways, then I cranked the overdrive channel, and played a bit of hard-rock. Then I went back to the clean part of the clean channel and played some relaxing music. It was all amazing.

Yeah, at first I thought about getting the black one, but then I thought I'd like a bit more of a classy looking amp. I'm not disappointed at all. The vintage tweed is indeed very nice.

Congrats!

I've got a Delta Blues 210 (slightly bigger brother to the C30) and a Classic 20 (little brother to the C30) and I love them both for the inexpensive all-tube wonders that they are.

The Peavey Classic series are an excellent value and can be modded to boutique-like specs.

I may still get a Classic 50 just 'cause.

I have a question about this amp...

Everything is working fine, but there is this one thing. The electrical cord is the three-prong kind. However, the third prong (the ground-prong, I believe) is broken off. Is this dangerous? I tend to think it might be...

If I need to, I can either do the splicing myself and get a new plug on the end, or have my dad (he's an electrician) do it.

I've heard that tube amps can be a little dangerous if they're not grounded propery. I don't want to hurt myself, so if this needs to be fixed, please tell me. Thanks!

it can be dangerous. Heck, any amp that isn't grounded properly can be dangerous. I'd get a new plug on there as soon as you have the chance to do it.

Anything that's made to have a 3 prong plug yet does not can be dangerous to the user.
The missing ground pin means that the electrical circuit's path to ground is missing...until you plug in your guitar and turn on your amp. Now, YOU have become the path of least resistance to ground for electricity to flow through and that's not a good thing at all.

You can probably fix it yourself but since your dad is an electrician I'd have him check your work and assist if needed.
