| Party probs in public colleges/universities? Hey, I'm just thinkn' about college and I know a lot of you go to public colleges or universities...and I was wondering, you hear all this stuff about the drinking problems and stuff--how bad is it? Like is there a lot of peer pressure to do that kinda stuff in dorms? Just looking for your thoughts.

| I go to a public college, and while most of the guys in my classes party, and I'm always invited, there is so much other stuff to do, that it doesn't matter. There are lots of christian groups and activities going on all the time.

| yeah i agree... i go to OSU, and its a huge school with lots of parties, but its no big deal as long as you find a group of non-drinkers and find it fast... there are lots of great Christians around though, so the parties don't bother me. |

| Unfortunately, the Christians are in hIding at my school... There's only 3 students that have come to Christian fellowship on a regular basis
A lot of people get drunk and come to school with hangovers, not as many as you'd think though.
Ah well...

| I go to a private school, and when I first got there, I was very disappointed. Here, I had been told that the university was infact a dry campus (it's not), then as I looked to find other Christian friends whom I could grow with, it seemed lacking. Many of the friends I made over the first few weeks were freshmen who felt like creating an ego or name for themselves around campus was more important. Many told me they were Christians, but I would later see them totally deny Him through their lips. I felt like a minority going to a school that I thought would be somewhat centered on God, but I found out that there were many, many others outside of my dorm who are very strong Christians with inspiring faiths. You just need to get active as soon as possible with groups around campus. |

| I go to Purdue- obviously big school. Lots of frat parties and apartment parties. Lots of people party. But wow. So many Christian organizations it's unbelievable. I was scared to death there wouldn't be any christians here when I came since it's a public school. I was so naive! I can laugh at it now. Just in my organization there are about 400 students..... so.... they're definately around! And I'm living in a freshman dorm again this year( (next year too)... it's so sad to see these kids go out and just seek on the weekends.... so God's called me to be here to (hopefully) show them that there is so much more fulfillment (not to mention fun!) in the Lord. And my church is here is AWESOME! So yeah there's lots of drinking but I see an uneven amount living in a freshman dorm (ohmygosh this frat boy invited me to his house partly like, like...). That's what I hear. And I see they're utterly lost. So don't be discouraged just becuase a college is public. You'd be surprised. I sure was! (Praise the Lord!) |

| well, i'm still in high school, but i live less than 5 minutes away from Duke and i dive there, so i have lots of connections. there's a huge drinking problem at Duke. i know quite a few people there and they all say that it's really bad. i've been over there right before and after the bad parts of the bonfires (tell me someone else has heard about those!) and even then there's a huge pressure to drink and stuff. but there's also a lot of Christian organizations there. i don't know numbers, but there's a lot of them. and they're good too.

| I go to school at a small engineering school in Butte, MT, and pretty much antbody you ask will say that there are two things to do in Butt, er, I mean Butte. Those two things would be drinking and fighting.
That being said, I think that it's usually going to sound worse than it is. I mean, there is a good group of Christians at my school and it's easy to stay away from that kinda thing if you have a few alternatives to it.
I think that the problem is usually overrated, because it's really a small minority that does the really serious partying. Everybody else just kinda does their own thing. And if you don't get involved with that small group of people, you're probably ok. |
