I may as well update this, I reckon.

Copy and pasted from my blog:
The following was a brief in which we had to choose a quote by a famous person and create a font that embodies the way in which their personality comes through in the presentation of the typeface. We were then to take that font and create a type-based poster illustrating their quote. I chose to do Madonna: "I always thought I should be treated like a star."
I accentuated the self-absorption and her modern agenda in creating a sharp, geometric alphabet based on the concept of a 'crown' to imply that the letters are self-apotheosizing.

1. font design

2. poster design

The next one is another type based project. The brief wanted us to depict music on an x and y axis- i.e.: show the scale of pitch versus time. We had to chose a section of a song- about twelve words- and compile the graphic to how the music sounds in relation to style and pitch and time. I chose to do a cover of "Owner of a Lonely Heart" by a band called Grizzly Bear (actually a member of Animal Collective). It is quite watery, electric and psychedelic and I endeavoured to instill my final piece with these qualities.
3. 'Hearing Type'

This is a drawing I did for this little exhibition type deal I was in on at a coffee cafe called 'the Bean Barn'. One of my mates organised it, and there where about 6 of us involved all in all. The theme was 'folklore', so I thought I'd do a nice Pegasus. Solt it for $100, but unfortunately it cost me $80 just to frame it.
4. Pegasus

This one's a drawing of my friend's face on a horse. No reason, other than me wanting to be cruel.
5. James the Party Animal

THREAD REVIVAL!
*party party*

Although, on review, I noticed that most of the attachments from 2006 have disappeared. Context; gone!

It's been some solid yearage since I updated this art blog, and I feel now's the time to break the absence. Firstly, might I announce: I now work for Quiksilver as the junior accessories designer. I finished up at uni with a great portfolio and got a job (two, actually, but see my blog for more details there) within a week. I wish I could post some of the Quiksilver stuff I've done, but can't unfortunately due to confidentiality issues. I feel, in the months that I've been employed there, my design has improved tenfold from where it was beforehand. And I've done some ripper stuff, not only in the accessories department.

Moving along, I want to share some old uni stuff, plus this odd little sketchbook thing I've been doing for a portion of the website I'm designing for myself (see attachment number one: play in flash player or an internet browser). It's pretty much my random doodles dressed up in evening wear. That is, random and unfinished (and unreferenced) illustration rendered nicely. I typically use graphite and markers (O, joy! I love my Shinhan Touch dual tipped markers!). Be sure to take a look at that one.

Design/art:

I noticed when reviewing this thread as well my horrid first attempts at logo design. I have since matured in this area, as evidenced by these here images:

I have a massive portfolio full of similar stuff, plus some more boring corporate design that you really wouldn't care to see. Unless you like reading brochures on mind numbingly dull things. Or Safer Sexual Health (I went there).

Ohhhhh mannn, I've missed your art! The pug picture is fantastic, and I'm especially partial to the "Jump Ship" logo . Puns have a special place in my heart.

That pug is awesome.

And those logos are clever. Very colorful.

Thanks, dude! The pug artwork was actually inspired by a viral internet funny in demotivational posters (as opposed to those cheesy motivational posters of people climbing mountains with big words beneath such like "motivation", or "determination" that are prime decor in many office environments). I saw this and just HAD to do something with it:

I really hit the logo design hard, and I think that really helped me mature design wise. And I don't do anything but colourful, sir!
