#214 | | impecunious | Just an ordinary car sketch. My sketching skills must be rusty- although this drawing is supposed to have a warped perspective some elements just look awkwardly proportioned.

And though it is better than I could do, that really doesn't say much. I do stick figures.

Don't be sorry. I was waiting for someone to do that.
Some uploads from my backlog:
This is what I did with that non-referenced horse-guy sketch thing:
And some website thing: |

| I like both.
Well...the horse one less so. It's beautifully mastered but some of the details (possibly only noticeable to a horsewoman?) don't settle well with me--if I'm completely truthful.

| Your logos are getting much better. Do you think you could do something other than a hard outline for the black background ones? Maybe a blurred "glow" or something? Or maybe some shadowing? You can see a little bit of this on the "n" in the white background one, and it's nice.
For the horse thing, I think it might have helped to try to intentionally make it a little more "cartoony" so it didn't look so weird not being anatomically correct or whatnot. The overall effect of the work is very "stylized" (for lack of a better word), so a more abstract feel might have worked.
That said, despite any inaccuracies (that I certainly don't know enough to point out), your use of light and shadow to form bone and muscle structures is wonderful. I think you could be really really good at this type of drawing with a little more practice / anatomical observation.

Yeah, I know what you mean. It just looks awkward to me, but I'm not too upset about it as it's all new ground for me. I think the most awkward part is how far back the saddle is, and this is accentuated by the horseman being too far back in it. It makes the horse's body look too short. Quote: |

It's too late to edit my entry now, but I played with your suggestion anyhow:
I don't really know if they're anymore effective than the previous set. Quote: |

Perhaps I should invest in a good book on anatomy. Thanks for the helpful comments as always, Nate.
Here's a little thing I did this afternoon. It's just a little coloured pencil trial to see how I can render form without referencing anything. I think I did well with this objective.
Just for the record, it's some sort of creature from beyond our records; a Jurassic fish. |
