I did this quickly last night: a digital speed painting of my mother done in Corel Painter.
I'm really not that experienced with painting on the computer, but I'm satisfied with this outcome. I hope to do a bit more digital painting in the near future. |

| And now you're right back to being a genius. That's brilliant work there, really. You used color, light, and shadow ridiculously effectively... seriously. You've got crazy colors that no one would ever think to use on a face like mustard yellow and the cool peachy / apricotty / rosey color, but no one would even notice that they're there because the overall effect is so striking and lifelike. I could see a film being "shot" in a style like this. It would be wonderful. Most computerized graphics are sterile and bland, but yours is really organic and dynamic. It's amazing.

Thanks for that comprehensive critique, Nate. I didn't think I had nailed this one, but your opinion tells me otherwise.
I keep getting criticised/warned against using too much of a cadmium yellow and too much of a rose red in my portraits. I really think they lend a warm, organic feel though- like that in Pre-Raphaelite painting. |

| Nice work. I like the overall effect as well, with the understanding that it could make someone look as though they are jaundiced. That is probably why "some" people don't like the use of such colors. Oh well, sucks to be them. I like it. |

| It's not quite as nice as the other, but it's still fantastic. I think it's the roughness of the lines, where you can see the digital "brush strokes," that gives this one less of a finished quality. The eyes in particular, though, are freakishly good. You have an amazing gift for capturing the essence of a subject. The expression and the pearls and the color choice really give a strong emotional sense to the image. You feel like you could there and stare at it for hours trying to figure out what she's thinking.

I'm sure she's still got them saved somewhere else, though.

It is a bit of a nuisance that that handy little atachment button is gone, though. I suppose I shall have to upload through Photobucket. Quote: |

2. I like people to be very specific when they commission me to do things. You would have to tell me exactly what you want, otherwise I'll just sit there stumped.
So yeah. It's up to you really.
My absence can be explained by a load of artwork- I have been frantically trying to beef up my art folio these past few weeks seeming as the term is ending. I have a huge (750x1000mm) finished acryllic painting of my mother to upload. Unfortunately I don't have the photograph of it with me at the moment, but I do have some other things:
1. A refined version of a previously posted digital painting:
2. An emu:
3. What I did with that emu in my VISCOM folio:
I am about to start compiling a portfolio and submitting applications to numerous universities. It's all very exciting, but daunting in that I don't know whether I'm doing everything I should be. There are so many damn forms and pre-selection kit type things. It's hard to know even what to put in my portfolio! If anyone has any suggestions on the work they've seen in here, let me know.
More artwork soon. I have a huge backlog. |

You've done some really cool stuff in here that's kind of more like doodlings in a sketchbook than art for a portfolio (your tattoo designs / cartoon caricature things / whatevertheywere, for example, unless you can come up with a larger version of one or two of them to stick in). I think it would be very cool to put in the works you've already been contracted for (the one of your principal [that was who it was, yes?], the one of your friend and her mother, etc) with a note to that effect.
