My tabs simply show finger position so I don't forget it. I also record my music, so the tabs are just for me. As far as me learning other people's music, I need the tabs along with a recording of the piece.

If you never hear the song, or it is a very complex song, then a recording is needed, but if you can remeber how it goes, you dont need a recording.

I suggest you learn to, because it will be more than invaluable to your future.

Oh man... I've always raved about Carmine Appice but in the case of time signatures... if you like odd stuff YOU HAVE TO see his drum clinic video. They jam in 5/4 and 9/8's and stuff... it rocks big time.

I've taken a piano class that lasted about 9 weeks and I learned most of my music reading skills in there. If I sit down with standard notation and pick through it, I can suffice, but it is so tedious for me that I usually stop. I was using Finale at one point to try to learn to read music better but I got tired of it. I want to learn to play the upright bass, so if I can take a class to learn the upright bass I will probably be more receptive to learning standard notation while learning the instrument.

And yet, despite the musical advances of my peers on CGR, Tool is still a band worthy of being talked about!

(Sorry, guys- I have developed a fear of censorship by my friend Scott...)

This thread grew three heads while I was gone. They were all ugly too, because it once again spiraled into a discussion of not Tool, but of chords, Dream Theatre and....Queen. This thread is way out of hand. Bring on the debate, that is fine, but slappy and outlaw, please stop oozing over bands you particularly enjoy (I was tempted to say something else, too). Its one thing if you want to compare, its another thing if you want to ooze about another band besides Tool, in this thread, which is entitled....Tool.

Now that I have said it nicely, don't come back and respond "ADAM UR SO CLOSE MINDED!!" Please, really. Stay on topic. Muchos gracias.

No, Adam, I would only say you were being close-minded if you were, and in this case you're not. :kwink:

I like Pu****.

Cheers, then (that is my new word, by the way).

Probably my second favorite Tool song. The extended version is even more amazing, off the Salival box set. Get that.

I can't believe it's editing that. What if I wanted to say ****zu?

Anyway, since this thread is about Tool, I guess I'm obligated to say Tool at least once in this Tool thread which is Tool-er-iffic.

It's OK. We all know what PU followed by **** means by now. It's been used probably 100 times over the course of this thread.

I didn't though because I am not a big Tool fan (not a small one either) and I didn't understand what it meant. So...

I love the song Ticks and Leeches... was there a reason it wasn't a radio single?

As it is one of the most catchy tunes on the album, it probably had something to do with the 3 minutes of near dead-air in the middle.

"IS THIS WHAT YOU WANTED?! IS THIS WHAT YOU HAD IN MIND?!!!!"
