personally, I prefer martins all the way. like everyone else has said, taylors are more bright and brassy, martins are more rich and chocolatey. I've got an unfinished rosewood guitar and it is my favorite thing ever. I don't have any electronics in it, because they muffle the sound of the instrument, imo. plus, I've only ever played it in small settings where an amp was unnecessary.

if you are going to plug it into an amp, I would say the taylor is the better choice. because they're bright and brassy the sound carries quite well. my friend has a gorgeous taylor that she is extremely happy with, and it sounds great through an amp.

personally, I prefer martins, but the choice is yours. the way I decided on my guitar was to go back several times and play it over and over. you have to choose the one that feels the best, and that decision isn't usually reached after playing a guitar once or twice.

ps- I use elixirs on my martin. they sound great. I hatehatehate the martin strings.
did you even read GtrDave's post?
