Amp

Okay, I've decided to get an amp, but I've had no experience at all with them.

Price range: 100-200
Size: at least bigger than a 26 watt 10"x8" amp.
Brand: that's what you guys will be telling me.

Ty,
Kervum

what exactly do you have right now? if your current amps input is 26W, then I'm guessing your output is closer to 10-15W.

Sorry. I didn't see the amp forum till I had put it there.

It's a silvertone smart II. It's "energy consumption" is 26 watts.

I'm guessing this is similar to the Silvertone Smart IIIs, which is 10W (20W peak) through a 6.5" speaker.

I'm just providing info for anyone who has an answer to your question. My gut reaction is Epiphone Valve Jr., or a used Peavey Bandit

if you can find a beckemer their jems. though they are solid state they have a beautiful tightness to them. i bought mine for 200 bucks and it's 25 watts through a single 12" speaker. it has spring reverb and overdrive with a couple other dohickeys. fx loop as well. now this is not beringher it's beckemer. I think the company is out of buisness but whatever i like it and you'll be lucky if you can find one. if you want a tube amp the best i know of new in that price range is a epiphone valve junior. to tell you the truth dont worry about an amp's power ratio too too much. most likely if your in a gig you can mic it. but 30 watts is a good boundry. you can also try a fender frontman 25 R (solid state), line 6 spider II,

my all time recomendation however
would have to be the crate power block. you do need a cabinet however. it's solid state but resembles a tube amp imo.

If you can spend $250-$300 you can snag a Line 6 Spider II 1x12 on ebay. In my opinion, it has awesome tone for a solid state amp. Incredible amp.

Id go with an epi valve Junior the 06 model. Run you about 140, its a kick butt little amp. Its a 5 watter, but it is LOUD!
I would go with a tube amp. Later, you will want one, and the little epis are a lot of bang for the buck, and its a good tone.

Question about the valve jr: Since there is only one control (volume), does the gain increase as the volume is turned up? And since I've never played one.. Is it a clean or distortion channel?

You can find a used Peavey Triumph on Ebay for 200. Those are 60 watts.

There's the good ol' Marshall Valvestate series. Snag an old one, they're cheap and have tone!

But what situations do you play in?
