| There were far too many LOL moments for this kind of movie. I mean, how much trouble is your stealth-action thriller in when you play "We Are Family" during an escape scene?
A big reason these films seem like vantiy projects is that the original TV series involved a group of specialized operatives completing a seemingly impossible objective. I'll admit that this idea isn't mine (I found it on a review site), but I totally buy into it. While MI:3 tried to bring the whole "team" aspect back in, the spotlight was still on Ethan Hunt and not on the IMF team.
Anyway, the problem with movies grounded in reality is that you expect certain things, like physics, to function like they do in the real world. Sure, I can believe that the main character can pick off armed guards with a pistol while sliding down a building. Less believable is him being stopped by the ledge instead of flying off it. If there's anything videogames have taught us, physics are fun when you use them right (see Half-Life 2).
This is where the ranting ends...(phrase not mine either; man, I am suc a ripper-offer) |
