Robert Frost paper... Here is a paper that I just wrote.... let me know what you think!
Robert Frost
I read ten poems from In the Clearing, which is a book of poems by Robert Frost, published in 1962. The poems that I read were: “Pod of the Milkweed,” “Away!” “A Cabin in the Clearing,” “Closed for Good,” “America is Hard to See,” “One More Brevity,” “Escapist - Never,” “The Gift Outright,” “Accidentally on Purpose,” and “A Never Naught Song.”
Since the selection I read was not one story or poem, there was no plot or character throughout the entire thing. There was one common theme, however. That theme ran throughout every poem that I read. The theme is the land we live on, and nature. Frost drew his images mainly from New England. This becomes clear in his poetry. All ten poems that I read had something to do with nature, and the land that we live on. Some of them were very descriptive poems that gave an image of what Frost was writing about. Other poems told some history of the land, and spoke about the origin of life.
There was another theme, very similar to the first, which was evident in a few of the poems that I read. That theme is our county, America. Several poems (“America is Hard to See,” “The Gift Outright”) talk specifically about America and its beauty. They also talk about America’s history, and the explorers that found the land. One of the poems, “The Gift Outright,” was read at John F. Kennedy’s inauguration in 1961.
In all ten poems, there was another common element. This was Frost’s way of rhyming. For the most part, he used end-of-line rhymes, and usually had the same amount of syllables in the two rhyming lines.
In my opinion, Frost’s poetry was good. I liked his use of adjectives, which gave you an image of what he was writing about. I also liked how the poems rhyme and sound good when read aloud, since there is the same amount of syllables in the rhyming lines. One thing that I do not like, however, is that sometimes the poems get very boring and dull, since all of the poems talked about the environment and land. |
