ABC shows "NEW" Ten Commandments show...

Did anyone catch the debut last night?

Thoughts on this.

My very first thought without having seen it yet (they are being TVo-ed for me)...hopefully. my first thought is as I look at Moses played by Dougray Scott (who speaks with an English accent for some ultimately weird reason) is look---look how young they make him appear! Crazy!

The real Moses was 40 when he slew the Egyptian and left Egypt. He was 80 years of age when God sent him back to Egypt---yes, 80 when he brought the Israelites out of Egypt. Holywood or Hollywood? Anyone? If they can't get the characteristics directly from the Bible, what else are they willing to not get from the Bible.

My guess would be that the people who wrote this and put it together were probably not exactly Biblical scholars...

Plus, even if they did want an 80 year old actor I bet the network would've shot it down! 'We need a young, hip, sexy Moses who will appeal to our younger demographics!'

Well in the movie Jesus of Nazareth they portrayed Jesus as a white male with blue eyes...not very jewish looking, but the movie was excellent in terms of retelling the the Gospel.

I think this should maybe be moved to the Television Forum?

I only saw a little bit of it. It was okay. Moses looked kind of mean. Though, I thought it was good where Pharaoh tried to look at himself as a god. That was a good thing to add in, I thought. I didn't see very much though.

Thanks

Well they (ABC) is continuing the mini-series right now! Ahhhhhhhhhhhh! The [New] Ten Commandments.

A) You have got to hand it to the secular television for even wanting to get points from the Judaic-Christian community. B) Or maybe they were hoping for viewers [ratings]. C) Or it's even possible that they simply wanted to pave the way for DaVinci Code's movie or to correct the Bible where they feel it made mistakes like sceptics and atheists even here at CGR attempt to do.

Well, either way it could be D) all of the above. But like we should in America, you are proclaimed innocent until proven guilty. And I will give them the benefit of the doubt until I hear from someone who has more knowledge about this ABC showing of the 10 Commandments.

Thank you each for your responses. I look forward to more on this.

I thought it was horrible, frankly. They kept portraying God as a cruel, nearly malevolent being, and Moses as some sort of tortured madman whenever God began to speak to him. They changed tons of things from the Bible in the second part, too. Blah!
