Just so I could get in on the MG series, I was at guitar center today so I played around with one and I just couldn't get good DS out of it. I mean, every amp has its uses, but that one isn't for me.

i'm sure there's a reason they don't make 16" speakers commonly though...I just don't know what it is.

i dont really use my amp's distortion. personally i like the clean tone out of it with a little chorus and reverb. a use a Diamond J-Drive for my OD it's absolutely amazing, there is no comparison to Diamond Pedals click on this link and you can hear samples. http://www.diamondpedals.com/index.html

I will agree, the cleaan is very good. And I also agree with your dicision to not use the amp's DS. IT just sounds like a $3 DS pedal that you can find on ebay.

Then you are not using your amp to it's full ability at all. Every SS amp has great cleans. If the distortion isn't great, and you don't even USE it, you are wasting your resources.

but if you don't like the on-bord DS, then why?

Exactly. Why spend extra money for features you don't use?

But he already has the amp (as far as I know)... oh, never mind. I always have something, but always seem to forget it

I'll vouch for Diamond. Never tried it through a solid state amp, but the J-drive could very well give him what he's looking for.

I never use the drive channel on my Fender, but I keep it anyway. And...I bought it, why? Because I adore the cleans. I've heard it top boutique cleans costing in excess of 2500$. Just playing devil's advocate.
