my friend

I just found out like a week ago that my friend (17) is pregnant. The father is gonna go into the navy. She needs some tips. Her mom is gonna help her and stuff, but is there stuff that i can do as a friend. Thanks

I know this sounds simple, but I think the best thing you can do is keep being her friend. As her interests start to focus on the new baby, friendships can change and people drift apart due to separate interests. If your school has a social worker, he or she can direct her to services she might need and if she needs help getting to see an OB for prenatal visits. If her mom can't go with her to the doctor, maybe that is something you can also do sometimes. It always helps to have a second set of ears to hear the medical advice.

Michelle gave great advice. Unfortunately what often happens in situations like this is that friends stop "hanging out" with the young woman and she then not only faces becoming a mom at a young age, but she ends up facing it alone.

Shop with her for baby things. Perhaps if money is a problem, look in to places that can help her (such as a Crisis Pregnancy Center or Catholic Charities) with needs such as a car seat, clothes, etc. Offer to help her set up a room for the baby, or a place in her room for the baby.

Its wonderful that you are already thinking of ways to help her. She has a good friend.
