Not by any means. It's mainly just a photo organization program. It'll let you import, organize, and present large amounts of photos. It's not a photo editing program. It sounds like it'll be like Picasa or something. I want to download the beta once it becomes available on Windows.

Not exactly. It's more than just organizing, though it does that very well. It's an amazing tool for minor edits and photo touch ups, and it works best with camera raw. I've got the Beta 2 on my Mac and it's a really great tool. It's basically like combining Photoshop's camera raw with Adobe Bridge, and throw in a slideshow and printing module. But it doesn't replace Photoshop at all, and isn't even intended to. Photoshop is still the best at intensive photo work and manipulation. Lightroom compares more with Apple's Aperature (though I've never used it personally) than with Photoshop.

That sounds pretty cool. I'll be sure to try it out once they make the beta for Windows.

Doesn't the beta expire after a certain amount of time?

Yeah, but by then the next beta will be out and you can get that one. There will be a version out that's free until the final version gets released. From the Lightroom FAQ:

Q: When will the beta version of Adobe Lightroom expire?
A: The first release of Adobe Lightroom Beta will expire in June, 2006. However, additional beta versions with appropriate expiration dates will be released throughout the life of the project, so that photographers who have come to rely on the beta version will not have an interruption in their ability to use Lightroom.

So as you can see, Beta 2 was released even well before Beta 1 expired. So it'll all be nice and free until the full version is released.
