I would tend to think you'd be
less physically prepared for the exact reason that you've been 'functioning physically for 8 to 12 hours." I'm not an athlete by any means, and I'm sure that warmups are good for you, but it seems that when your body is rested (i.e. after sleeping), you're in better shape to perform.
