P.S. The Valveking does have a master volume.
erm...I think you're confused...the VK is 6L6s in the power amp and 12ax7s in the pre-amp

A question about the valveking. Is the A/B tone knob thingy in the back really usefull, or is it just more of a novolty (spelling) item?

Umm.... I keep it on full power. It kind of like brightens up the sound i guess???? I haven't fooled with the A/B tone thing enough to exactly describe what it does.

Is it something that really changes the tone that much?

Well, I found one on CL for $200, (its in the detroit area) so I e-mailed him to ask what is wrong with it (for only $200, it seems suspiciose)

Actually, the 112 does not have a master volume - it has an independant volume for each channel.

in the band im playing in now the guitarist uses a classic 50 with a tube screamer for practice, it is heavy as all get out. it actually surprised me cause i wasnt that big a fan of peavey before that. if the j&h is a clone of that pedal then i would say you shouldnt have a prob with getting a great overdrive/distortion sound from that amp. my vote is the peavey classic.
