Commonwealth Games

So, my fellow British subjects (I'm guessing that still applies), what's happening?
The Commonwealth Games is what.
About the most exciting 'game' in the whole thing are the 7s. New Zealand just faced Aussie, and we won. WOOT! We're through to the Finals. Mostly likely, we'll be facing Fiji.
We also got a gold in one of the swimming events.

But you Aussies are probably going to clean up on all the rest.

I have a couple of questions though.
Do you guys, as the aussie and kiwi public, actually enjoy the Commonwealth Games?
Are the Olympics and Winter Olympics enough? And then we've got the Rugby World Cup next year, which is really the MAIN world competition worth bothering about.
Do you guys think we should still be under british rule? Should we become republics? Even if it's just to get out of the Commonwealth Games?

I'm really disappointed that the Commonwealth Games follow so soon after the Olympics this year. As a fellow subject of Her Majesty the Queen of England, I have always enjoyed watching the games, which the CBC would broadcast for at least 6 hours per day that they were on.

However, this year, they are only being broadcast for an hour a day on a fringe channel that not a lot of people get in Canada. This is probably because of the Olympics and the CBC did not want to lose a month of programming for sports.

Very disappointed.

Yes, I'm enjoying watching them. But! I live in Melbourne and I'm not enjoying the road closures and all the traffic, slowing me down on my way home from work (it hasn't been affecting me on the way to work in the mornigs).

My fiance and I went to the mens gymnastics the other night. It was really really good! I've never really been to such a sporting event before. I don't go to the football or anything either, so it was a bit of a new experience for me.

The Australian's look to be winning in the medal tally, but I don't know what everyone keeps talking about that - no one really cares who get's the most medals....well I don't care. I'm more interested in each individual sport. No one remembers what country won! Can anyone remember who won the last commonwealth games or last olympics? Or even the last winter olympics for for matter, and they were just a few weeks ago.

I was so inspired by the Commonwealth Games that I've actually taken up gymnastics. It's so fun! I'm way past my prime (being a whole 20 years old) so don't expect any international medals for me. And yes, by saying that, I am allowing for national medals to be achieved! A few years ago, I had planned on being in Melbourne with OM doing stuff at the Games. Funny how God's plans prevail...
