can you get a remotely "realistic" piano sound out of a Rhodes?

Well? I'm 99% sure this is the stupidest question I've ever asked, but I had to make sure.

I'm pretty sure the purpose of a Rhodes is not to give a realistic piano sound.

Why would you even want to do that?

It can't be done; and if you're getting frustrated, then hit the Rhodes, Jack.

That's the idea.

Incredible analogy. Your intelligence is greatly admired.

I doubt it, but from my understanding the Rhodes has strings and hammers with electrostatic pickups in it. If the piano wasn't powered, because of the size you might not get a loud sound. I may be wrong about the Rhode setup.

A Rhodes has metal tines which the rubber-tipped hammers strike, and the tines are suspended over a series of pickups (almost like a guitar's pickup system). The tines are relatively rigid and the rubber dampens the blow, and that's the reason that you get almost no sound without amplification.
