Did Brian Wilson play at the live 8 concert? For memory he did and it was funny...

I grew up listening to their surf and car music, loving it. It was not until a couple of years ago that I heard Pet Sounds and fell in love madly. God Only Knows is an amazing song...

I won't deny that they were great musicians, but I never really got into them.

I was listening to it the other day, and became very emotional. I did not cry. But I was emotional.

Seeing the title makes me emotoinal. Do you like the small amount of instrumental stuff they did?

I dig the instrumentals. "Pet Sounds" is a brilliant song.

What a way to put it.

Now that I've gotten all of their original albums on vinyl, I'm working on finding a majority of the 45s. I have about 10 so far, so I only need about 1,000 more.

The more I've gotten into the Beach Boys, the more I've come to love their influences as well. Burt Bacharach was a huge influence on the instrumentals on Pet Sounds, even enough that Let's Go Away For a While was unofficially dedicated to Burt. The Everly Brothers and the Four Freshmen paved the way for their vocal harmonies, more so than most people give them credit for. And who could forget the Phil Spector production? Brian and Phil were really battling (without knowing it) for who could make a cooler wall of sound.

Also, thumbs down to the Beatles for being mean to the Beach Boys in Back in the U.S.S.R.

I'm having pretty good luck so far. The ones I've found are only running about $0.50 a piece, sometimes even less. I find the CD remasters have been messed with in a very bad way, except for Pet Sounds of course.
