I stickied this. Post any more links here, and I'll add them to Mr. Winkle's post. Like the thread in effects.
Hey, anybody know any free AU plugins? I don't think VST works with Garageband...

Okay...here are few really good ones:

SIR Super Impulse Reverb:
http://www.knufinke.de/sir/index_en.html

Impulses for the above:
http://www.echochamber.ch/
http://noisevault.com/

Mr. Ray 73 - VSTi Rhodes. It's so good, even compared to an original Mk. I 73. It doesn't use samples.
http://www.soundfonts.it/?a=read&b=18

The Organ Trio (one of the better B3s I've heard), Mr. Tramp (a great wurlitzer EP), and full Mr. Ray (Like the above, only with effects and different sounds avalible) are also avalible, though they are shareware/donationware.

Mellosound - Mellotron VSTi. Has Brass, Choir, and Strings. Great for the Brass. I prefer the Nanotron Strings and Choir.
http://batsound.users.btopenworld.com/

Nanotron - Mellotron VSTi. Another Mellotron VSTi, does Choir, Strings, and Flute.
http://www.dream.vortex.btinternet.co.uk/6655/

Dream Sequencer - Bass Sequencer.
http://www.dream.vortex.btinternet.co.uk/6655/

MinimogueVA and Arppe2600va - Minimoog and ARP 2600 VSTi.
http://glenstegner.com/softsynths.html

Sun Ra VSTi - "Ambient Texture Generator." You can't really "play" it, it just sort of runs and does its own thing. But its a very cool thing.
http://www.kvraudio.com/get/490.html

Spook Keys VSTi - VST Theramin. Several other good plugins at the site also.
http://www.simple-media.co.uk/music/vsti/vsti.htm

ASynth - Another Minimoog VSTi.
Taurus - Moog Taurus pedals VSTi.
http://antti.smartelectronix.com/

thats all for now, sure I'll have more later.

These are very good. For those who arent very familiar with Impulse Reverbs...they basically take a small wav, and build reverb based on that wav, or "impulse". BUT...they are CPU hogs...something you probably couldnt run "live" so to speak...

I used that plug for that funk jam I did not too long ago.

I went on a VSTi downloading spree the other day, I'll post the good ones when I come back from vacationing this weekend.

A few more I've found recently:

Cycling '74 Pluggo Jr. - a collection of plugins from their Pluggo collection. Great stuff. On the weird side. I love it.

Tremollama - Great tremolo/panner. Will synch to VST host tempo.

CamelCrusher - Distortion.

PSP Pianoverb. - sounds interesting. Like using a piano for reverb.

Texture - vsti
Motion - vsti
Crystal - vsti
iblit/poly iblit - vsti

Where's the linkage?

BTW, I've used that PSP Pianoverb.

What it does really well is make a sterile digital piano sound like a real one. It tries to recreate the natural reverberation that happens inside the piano itself with all those really long piano wires, etc.
