Assuming we're talking about the same Nigel... |

Derek Millar
Actually there is a top 10 guitarists thread in the secular music forum, but this is a bit different. So Derek Millar, anyone heard of him? Simply put - amazing.

| I don't think there really is a greatest guitarist ever. Everybody has oppinions, but as some other dude said, one guy might be really good at theory but might be really boring to listen too. |

Michelangelo Batti? (who here has heard this guy play?)
Personaly the guy who tops my list is Steve Vai. Mostly because I don't think there are many players in ANY genre who have the total command over the instrument that he does. His technique is flawless (he's on record for the fastest recorded guitar playing). His knowledge of all things harmonic and melodic is extensive (he has guitars with a 16 note octave on which he has invented scales, and entire melodic systems that he composes songs with!) He is a consumate musician. read his lessons on his website, especially the ones about rhythm! They will blow your mind! He has a voice on the instrument that is unique and distinguishable from any other player on the planet! Plus, he is SO good at expressing himself on the instrument; he knows how to make it say EXACTLY what he wants it to say and that IMO is the measure of a great player...
Did you know that For the Love of God was all recorded in ONE take! He didn't play for three days, spent those days mentally focusing on it, went into the studio and did the whole thing in one take! |
