Mentors of CGR

I was thinking we maybe should have something like have mentors on here for people that need overcoming stuff orsanything or our new in there walk with God so like to have people walk thru them with stuff and pray for them.Just a thought that i thought might be cool.

Well, I don't think you should feel uncomfortable about people reading your posts. It's good to try to get advice from all sorts of people. But if you really feel uncomfortable, you can sign in as a guest. Or pm certain people.

Sounds like this could be moved to the forum request forum...

But anyway, easier to do what? What about so many people?

One-on-one mentoring should take place through PMs and e-mails. Anything posted on a board like this would be available for anyone to read.

I agree with Lee, you should seek out a mentor, perhaps search for one in a good forum, and ask if they could mentor you. All mentoring SHOULD be done in private, with messaging, not in the open where everyone, even nonmembers can access and read....

One-on-one mentoring should take place in the church. Honestly, as great as CGR is, it's no substitute for finding a man or woman of God that you can actually see and talk to and learn from by their example. No one on CGR can set an example. All we can do is give advice.

I agree with that 100%. I was just suggesting that to attempt something like that on a public board would be impossible. It has to be private.

I have another suggestion. The nursing home or your churches shut-ins. These are some of the wisest of the wise locked away. That would be my humble suggestion.

I agree with Bob on this one. I think that PMs and emails have a place, but there is no substitute for face to face relationships.

I am fairly new to the world of internet relationships and while I can admit that I have developed a genuine love for someone here, I am also having to face the obvious limitations. On the one hand, there seems to be very open communication, but you reach a point where it is obvious that the various constraints of the internet are going to have a profound effect on the relationship. It's easy to hide on the internet. The computer can be shut off while you go about your business. If you don't like what someone says, you can just leave and there's nothing the other person can do about it. I rely heavily on tone and body language and countenance. I don't have any of that so I find myself continually questioning. Even to the point of wondering if I've made a mistake by allowing my heart to get that involved. The internet is a very vulnerable place when you're trying to be genuine.

Now, I could be taking this much deeper than anyone intended. I hear the word "mentor" and I think of very, very close relationships. The original poster could mean something entirely different.

AMEN. This hits on something that is one of my greatest frustrations in churches today. When you have a teaching time called "Sunday School" it never fails that they separate out the "seniors" from the rest of the adults. I feel cheated that I miss out on the wisdom I could be gaining from them.

AMEN to both you and Bill. Ohmystars, I can't even start talking about this subject because it would turn into a major rant.
