Even with all this talk of outsourcing and whatnot, unemployment is down from most of 2005. It's actually about as low as it's been since before the 2001 recession, with 4.7% being the latest number. The current rate is among the lower rates from the past century.

Makes sense...and I've heard that is the case as well. But...

...does this involve people working at their ideal careers? For example, someone with a computer science degree having a job in... computer science as a programer, etc. as opposed to some medial office job?

It does seem that every fast-food resturaunt I go by is hiring.

My problem is that the same is not true in the IT world... the underpinning businesses (call centers here in Tampa, for example) are being shut-down as they relocate offshore leaving the support market (IT) with more people than jobs and decreasing wages.

The trick is to be flexible and diversify your skillset. I know this is easier said than done but, being able to fit into a broad range of IT positions instead of resigning yourself to one particular area is invaluable in todays IT arena.

Where jobs are concerned, the lower-level skillsets will always be the first to go, the question is how high will that offshore migration reach?

Again... this is too old of a thread. If you want to start discussing this again I ask that you start a new thread, Novan_Leon.

thanks,
