Yeah, Tokai's are strange instruments. They sort of shocked the market back when they first came out, since people never expected quality guitars to come out of Japan. At the time Fender quality control was pretty awful (did anybody do anything well in the seventies?) so having these great (and not particularly cheap) Strat and Les Paul clones coming from Japan really got people's attention.

Fender promptly (and justifiably) sued them for trademark infringement because they couldn't have tried harder to copy the fender logo and headstock design.

But then again, that may sound familiar to all you Taylor fans out there, huh?

Anyways, I've known some folks to really rave about their Tokais, and some to be pretty ambivalent. I guess it just varies greatly from guitar to guitar.

And I think I saw an aluminum Tokai once. Pretty strange.

I mostly play Washburn HB30 (semi-hollow) electric. I have 2 other electricss, a Washburn Stevie Salas Signature and Epiphone Spotlight.

Takamine Santa Fe when I play acoustic. Also have a Conn 6-string (flame maple back & sides) and a Conn 12-string that I occasionally use for things that don't require electronics.

I think that's true for most makes - including Fender.

This is the Tokai Talbo - one of the guys from INXS used one. They are still made.

We have an '84 Fender American Strat Custom (Don't play it much:-)

I play(well, try to) a Jackson Stealth HX.

I'm just leaning to play, so I'm learning on an Ibanez acoustic.

I love that Fender!

I play a classical Takamine sc132 acoustic/electric and a 1976 Epiphone acoustic that I really like because it has the best action of any guitar I've ever played.

Electric wise, I have a 76 les paul deluxe (I am convinced that my LP is the heaviest guitar ever made..), and a fender tele.. which is my backup. Acoustic wise, I play a RainSong JM1000, which I just bought recently.. if you guys have never played a rainsong, you've gotta try one.. they have a website @ www.rainsong.com ....I also have a taylor 314ce 25th Anniversary Ed., and a taylor 812ce, which is a good guitar but not nearly as nice as my rainsong.

anyway.. thats me.

my guitars

lets see...what guitars do i have:

Acoustic: Ovation Legend Custom

Electric: DeArmond S-65 (it is a cheap rip off of the Gibson SG) but its not a bad sounding guitar....

Electric: Gibson L6-S (its actually my dads guitar...but i play it the most...when i am not at college...its a great guitar)

but i am actually a drummer...so my guitars only get a lot of use when i am at college...cause there is not enough room for my drums in the dorm...

happy playing...

Any other Huss and Dalton owners out there? I bought a H&D D-RH about a year ago that is incredible. I have a Guild DV-62 that I use a lot when I play at gigs that need a pickup, and my 25 -year old Alvarez 12 string.

Hey-o
Has anyone played the handcrafted guitars by Yamaha. I have a LL400 by Yamaha and it's amazing. The handcrafted are made of very good wood and cost a lot less. My g-tar has a solid sitka spurce top with solid mahogany back and sides, ebony bridge and finger board, ya know, the standard. Anywho, I thought I would just mention it to those who want a quality guitar at a good price.

Yamaha EC-10 classical guitar... Completely free! My sister-in-law gave it to me when I started learning how to play. I love my sister-in-law.

i have a Takamine EG-530....its a great guitar for its price.. i love the sound that it makes. i think i got it around $500. i was goin to buy a martin, larivee, or a taylor, but i found that the sound of the takamine was much better. i also have a fender stratocaster, american series. i got a while back for like somewhere around $1200.
