Cool

I have two guitars.... My first one, (my baby!) is a Dean Exotica QSE in natural color, for $284.95 from Musician's Enemy.... (J/K! you see the guitar was supposed to be blue, but they sent the natural one. I've just recently gotten over the whole dissapointment.) And then I have a Ibanez RX 240 that I bought off of Ebay for $120.

I just got a Ovation Celebrity A/E cutaway for Christmas. ($400 w/case) And my electric is an Oscar Schmidt Eastwood strat-style I picked up in a pawn shop for $100 (with case). It plays really good, and I love the humbucker pickup. Here's one you may not have heard of that my friend is borrowing from me: an old, old Univox Les-paul style. It's been my project, replacing the pickups and wiring and all.

Let's see...my inventory has dwindled considerably over the past couple of months. Right now I'm running bare bones with my old Gibson Les Paul Standard and my homemade "Frankenstrat" as backup. For acoustic duties, I have a Charvel 625C a/e that's decent enough for what I need it for, although with only 2 acoustic songs in our set, I usually just run the "Frank" through a Boss acoustic simulator so I only have to carry 2 guitars to gigs & not 3.

My birthday is coming up though, and I have to decide on either another Les Paul or a Taylor 614ce that I've been eyeing. The LP would get more usage, so that's the way I'm leaning right now. I have a couple weeks to decide.

Talking

I've got a cheepy Cort electric guitar that I love. It's dark blue with a perl pickguard. I've also got a no-name acoustic that's got pretty good sound to it. I'm currently drooling over pictures of a new guitar that a co-worker just got. A jumbo guitar (gibson j-200) oooooo nice.

J-200s are so cool. I couldn't afford one, or even come close, frankly, so I got a J-100.

The J-100 still isn't cheap exactly ($1200-1300), but tone wise it's almost identical. The top, back, sides, bridge and fretboard are all the same woods, same construction. The big difference is that the J-100 has a mahogany neck and doesn't have all the cool trim and hardware.

I don't hear a lot of difference in sound from the 200s I've played or heard because of the mahogany neck. I think they did it that way not to alter the sound, but just to make it not look like a 200. (Seriously - why else would you? Mahogany is a more expensive wood and is harder to work with than maple.)

I got a 1986 Tokai TST50 fitted with Reflex Blues active pickups and a blend pot. I let Fender owners try this guitar and they get REALLY upset.

I've also got a Simon & Patrick Acoustic - the one with the Cherry back and sides.

The feel. This guitar feels like a Fender should. SRV played Tokais - he even appeared on their advertising.

This guitar was bought in 86, made in 85 (probably) and played and sounded better than any Fender in the shop.
