Well, a few weeks ago my dad ordered one and we got it and it's the greatest. So what advice can any of you give me on like, tuning and methods and how you hit it and stuff? Oh, and how to prevent the head from popping. My brother did that, but we think it was cuz he was hitting it too hard.
I have a djembe that I bought in Ghana. His name is Djembob. He's made out of hand-carved wood and goat hide. The tension is made by rope. He's really cool.
It's best if you cup your hands a little bit when you're striking the middle. If you're striking on or near the rim, it's best to hit it in the middle joint of your finger(metacarpals).
I play the Djembe and the set (not at the same time). If i want a real loud, bursting bass sound i hit it with a fist in the middle, other than that i cup my hands. I use different beats for diferent timesignatures and tempos, which is a good idea.

Try playing at the same time, it can be fun What I do is i put bongos and djembe next to my left foot, and usually play them with my left hand..right hand fills in for snare
