Question Anyone in the Medical field or seriously wanting to be?

Greetings!

How are you?! Do you love to serve in the medical field? Or maybe you're in it and not loving it. I hope to interact with you then.

I have been in the medical services (ambulatory) for a few years now and would love to know if there are any out there who are interested in medical field in the least or the full.

I personally, am a certified Echocardiographer (not yet registered).
http://heart.healthcentersonline.com...cardiogram.cfm [explains] I love it! It is like Crime Scene Investigation...mostly hoping not to find a crime.

I am CPR & AED certified and currently studying {on weekend hands-on lab studies} a Siemens Hand Held Echo (HHE) machine for Out Patient exams.

Thanks for your posts in advance!

Hi there. I am kind of in the medical field...part time. I run calls once a week or so with the lifesaving crew here. I'm an EMT-B I don't plan on doing this full time, and probably wouldn't want to (burnout), but the bit that I do it, I love it.

ThanksALatte, thanks for your post.

I am also what some could call a junior EMT. I know the basics and have used them in and off the medical field.

I know what you mean by burn out too. It gets very crazy if its not crazy all the time, but I guess I was designed for crazy.

Great to hear from you!

I have been seriously considering going onto taking the M-CAT after I finish my bachelors. It is a thought. I will see. Right now, I am a MP. I arrest people and send them to the Brigg. Fun! (Not Really) But I do love my combat related jobs. I am a ceritfied medic in my unit. I apply firstaid and feild stuff. Like, I learned how to pull bullets out of some areas on the body, in combat.

Yes, I would encourage you to continue in as much med training as possible especially if its covered in your service program.

One of the upsides to med training is the ability to care for our fellow man unlike we could before and I believe my outlook for one has been changed by service in the med field. One of the downsides is that every time I am relaxing and not on the job, my mind stays on the job and things like eating out aren't the same anymore. Like when I eat I actually hope no one will choke around me because I am trained to respond. But when I am working on the field I am readied and expecting STAT's and expecting to see and endure other things that most people couldn't stomach or co anything about. But when I am trying to "unwind"...heeee forget it. Well as I mature, this feeling matures as well and I can enjoy my family and "leave-time" more.

I pray that God will inspire, direct and encourage you in the will He has laid out for you.

P.S. I have been trying to post this for several days and the computers are working very-very slow and hopefully this went through.

..I am supposed to be gone...

*cough*

I am pursuing a career in Speech-Language Pathology. That's considered part of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia, so I think it qualifies as medicine. Sort of.

Cool Cool

Excellent. Speech Pathology [speech therapy]! I have worked side by side and in turn with ST's.

Yes, it is certainly medicine. I have communicated with many cancer patients who are so grateful to their speech pathologists.

If you end up working indirectly or directly with others in a hospital setting in vasular/cardiovascular (out-patients [ambulatory]--mobile or in-patients) you'll be working with CVA (cranial vascular ateriosclerosis [stroke victims]) and TIA (Transient Ischemic Attacks-mini stroke) patients as well as others. After a stroke many people cannot speak and have to relearn or work back into proper communication. Amazing how our speech is linked to maintaining mental stability and health (psychological and physical).

This is a challenge and I thank God for more people getting into this. May He bless you and grant you wisdom, understanding and as the Psalmist wrote, "establish the work of your hands".

Children or adults or both? Is this from familial experience or a desire for others and other reasons?

I've been thinking about going into the medical field, but I'm not sure yet. I was thinking it might be fun to be an OB/Gyn.

Thank you Ja-Ja for your response. If helping others to better health, wise choices and child development--and serving man [well mmore specifically: girl, teenage females, women] while making good pay with excellent benefits as well is for you, then OBGYN is definitely a good choice. The need will never run out and the education is invaluable!
