You can play youngstown by Bruce Springsteen on a Tele. I've tried to play metal on my bro's thinline Tele though........ it can do it, just doesn't sound very happy about it lol.

i'd imagine the semi-hollow body wouldn't be too conducive to high gain.

Not really, it didn't have that raw metal sound; too thin.

If some of you are looking to see some variety in guitars, other than the Gibsons (Epiphones), Fenders, Schecters, and Ibanez's......

The guitars from Caparison are amazing. They're made exclusively in Japan, and can only be purchased there, or from the website and a few select dealers in the US.

I play the Horus guitar, and it's a rock guitarist dream guitar. 27 frets, Floyd Roses bridge, 1 knob for volume with a push up/down pickup selector. You can sit in a quiet room and play this guitars unplugged and hear everything. It's one of those guitars you just can't put down once you start playing it.

Very well crafted

What can't you play with a Strat? Go with Fender or G&L, even for Teles too. Les Pauls - I recommend Heritage. There are a ton of these threads that have been posted - nobody agrees and more than half the time, you get bad advice. What I mean is, someone is recommending the only guitar they have and they have nothing else to compare it with (i.e., own a real good guitar).

My advice is listen to the guys who have had experience owning more than one guitar - like the veterans. Of equal consideration (if you're asking about an electric guitar), don't forget to get a decent AMP!

heck...as a gear junkie, i'm always tempted to tell people that i only play guitar so i can use various amplifiers...

honestly...you can get a $3000 PRS, but if you're playing it through a Crate 15W with an 8" speaker it'll still sound kinda bleh.

I have no advice.

Buy whatever you want...(you will anyway).

Then in a year you might be totally dissatisfied with it and posting a thread about how much you really don't like that guitar and you'll ask, "What should I buy because I don't like my guitar?!".

A strat is a good all around guitar, good looks, good sound, good feel. The tele is too, I used to not like them until my brother got one. I love the way they sound, they feel good, but in my opinion, not like the strat. I don't really like the way they look, but the tone makes up for it. A Les Paul is another good one. The guitarist at my church let me play his gibson for a while, I felt like I was in heaven.

I have thought of that too. I play, but I love all the gear.
