My parents wouldnt let me play the drums and so I chose to continue in the vein of time keeping and play the bass.

because the church needed someone to play the bass, and my friends wanted a bassist for their band.

Because guitar players were a dime a dozen, and there were no bass players around. So after years and years of playing guitar, I bought a 5 string bass and learned the WhiteHeart Freedom CD do get me into the bass player groove. Love that Tommy Simms and Anthoney Salley. Awesome awesome bass players.

I originally got a bass when I was in High School. It was my second choice. I wanted drums, but couldn't get them. I got a bass, learned a few basics, then got my drums, and gave up on bass.

A few years later, I move into an apartment.. couldn't have drums... went back to bass. Got a Fender bass for Christmas. Didn't have anyone to play with, so it set in the corner. I picked it up every once in a while to learn popular songs.

Fast Forward to 5 years later.... I start talking to a co-worker about his Praise and Worship music. I decided I wanted to play bass again, and put that Fender to use. Started going to the practices, learning to play, and eventually got to play as a "backup".

Now I'm a regular, alternating Sundays for just over a year now.

I was sitting in church one day and the praise and worship leader came over to me and said "So...um..how would you like to learn to play the bass?" I said sure started going to practice watching the bassist then I started to play and now I play bass.
-They wanted the bass player to play acoustic guitar and I was the only other person who plays guitar, but I was deffenitly not as good as the bass player so he moved up to guitar and I moved up to bass. I acctually love bass more than guitar, you get more freedom with what you can do in the background.

Yep I agree fully!

I don't know, just for fun I guess.
I just decided "I want to play bass."
Probably because of the awesome sound, and how you look awesome playing it, all cool and what not.

I learned the guitar so i wanted something new to learn so the bass was the choice, and my mom wouldn't let me get drums

To play in a band, but that never kicked off.

That and I've always liked lower strings, which is why I took viola over violin (but then switched to Double Bass 7 years later...man, its beena while)

Haha - I think it's funny that lots of the CGR bass players went to bass after not being allowed to be drummers.

My dad's one of the best bass guitarists I've ever heard so I wanted to follow in his footsteps.
