if you're getting both, and a job, get the ipod if you have a long travel to work, get the guitar if you don't. also consider how having a job will affect guitar playing time

Well i live in Canada so $200 for you would be like roughly $230-$250 here.

Actually, I find 256MB more than enough. I really so no reason your mp3 needs to hold more music than you are likely to be able to listen to before the next time you come in contact with your computer. I can fit a good 4 hours on my 256MB player, which means you could fit a good 16 hours on a 1GB player. How could you possibly need that much music before next time you reach your computer and put new stuff on?

Close to $200 USD, yes- this is the cheapest I've found, and I'll probably buy this soon:

Depends on the person, I guess. For me, I'd much rather have the luxury of having everything with me rather than having the hassle of switching the music out all the time. That, and I'd like to splurge a bit with the bit-rate.

To each, his own, I suppose.

I agree, I have a 512 mb shuffle and I still suffer through the pains of switching music. It holds over 8 hours but say I get a new cd and want it on my IPod, well because i only have 512 mb I have to go through the trouble of searching through the ipod and making room to fit the cd, i don't know such as the new relient k ep. Happened just tonight actually.

wow, thats a surprisenly good deal, maybe i should look into that (if they ship to Canada).

A 500 mb i don't think is big enough for me, i'm the kind of guy who likes variety, i mean 5000 songs is more that enough variety, but like i say it will most likely fit all the cds i will ever buy on it.

Well, sure, it'd be nice but I don't think it's worth paying at least 4 times as much for.

hold on a sec, you can't get any adapters to let an ipod record sound can you? That way i could record home-made rythems on that instead of the old-school cassette recorder, but the recorder makes everything a whole lot "cooler," if you know what i mean.

I agree. its not hard to change out songs. does anyone else find the IPods trendy other than me? most the people i know who have one are all the same. they all dress the same with the ripped up jeans (the ones you buy like that for 100$ cuz its cool) and shirts 2 sizes to small and all go to starbucks together. i think theres a connection with starbucks and apple. everyone i see there has an ipod.

mmm...starbucks...
your impressions of ipod users must be specific to your location...here, just about everyone from many differnt backgrounds have them...then again this area has a high average income.

well considering I may be in traffic for 2 hours a day, or if I use my bike, 4-5 hrs, meaning I am gone from 11-14 hrs a day. Generally when I get home, mp3 song changing is a low priority, getting food and having time with my wife is more important.

besides it was a wedding present.
