that would be one example from several thousand.

how can it be free AND legal?
it's free because you don't have to pay and it's legal because the bands/band reps are the ones that maintain the site and decide what songs to put up. often only one of three or four songs are downloadable, the rest only stream. providing one or two tracks from an album is a really good tool to market an album

Ahh, is there a forum for this? The bottom line is all IPods have the ability to store computer files, just different amounts of them, whether they be flashtastic hardcore RAM drives, or Snickerdoodles they are still cool.

Maybe I shouldn't have said "the downloading of free music" because even ITunes gives free music. I meant illegal music hence the reference to the RIAA.

well i have to say at the moment i am leaning towards an ipod, one of the 5 thousand song ones, BECAUSE i really like the idea of holding all of your music in you pocket and you can listen to it all over. I mean writing music comes from inspiration of songs doesn't it? Maybe i'll just upgrade my guitar by putting a new pickguard on it or buying a new one to trace another wooden one like i have on now. Its really crooked and its almost falling apart, my neck humbucker can't stay at the heigth i put it at because the hole is so worn through it just falls back and wobbles when i play, so i jusxt use my middle single coil. Do you think i should get a new pickguard, would it make a difference? I was thinking of pickup cover things to. I know its pretty sad that i am making up ideas to make my guitar play better (which likely won't), so i can get the ipod. i think i may have to make do with what i got for now(as in the guitar) and buy a new guitar when i get a job.

do you need a bigger amp? a 10W amp will serve great if you only need to play for yourself, especially if you're going to be living in dorms at college and would like your floor not hating you.

I think you don't really know what you want. I think you need to decide that much first and THEN decide what variety of what you decide on that you should get.

I personally love my iPod. I bought a Mini because of the huge amounts of accessories available for the iPods. In hindsight, it would've been much wiser to get something like a Creative Zen Micro for less money that holds more songs, but I bit the bullet of the Apple hype just like you seem to be doing. You're paying for the name and the advertising costs, not much more. On top of that, iPod accessories are all way overpriced. Only now after they've been out how long are you just starting to see cheaper alternative accessories at Wal-Mart like the silicone sleeves for 86 cents, which is what they SHOULD cost, not the 20 bucks you'll be charged for a "real" one. Podcasts are great sources of free music and information as well, but you do *not* have to use an iPod to get them.

I don't even use an amp most of the time. I play unplugged or with an acoustic unless I'm actually performing, or have a sudden urge to blast it.

Go to the CGR Member's Bands forum... lots of good free music there (from great groups like mine, thesteves, etc.), also sites like epitonic.com , or record label sites and more.

well i mean my amp only has a volume control, gain control, and a voice control! But i guess it would do for a while longer.

how can you barely use an amp? i guess its good to not be dependant on the amp huh? When start college, actually probably a carpentry course (wont be for a few years yet) i'll probably just bring an acoustic.

and what do you mean by the free music in band forum, you mean like free ipod music?

Really, I'm usually just too lazy to get it. I don't really mind practicing unplugged, so whatever.

The CGR Members' Bands forum, all the bands usually have songs online.
