Eee! The sparkely-one is back, all fixed up and no more cocaine in the truss-rod access! (This is what I get for buying on E-Bay O.o). Turns out the whole problem was that whoever had it earlier, atop of not knowing very much of Gretsches, apparently thought it would be nice to try to resolder a few points incorrectly to one of the volume pots, wrecking the ground entirely. Thats not exactly a difficult job to fix but obviously they had no idea what they were doing. (There was a gob of solder about the size of a superbounce ball on it)
anyways, here she is. Finally a decent pic
Edit: Oh man, how could I forget my new amp ^^;; Line 6 Spider II.. Anyways. Here ya go..
It's a G1922 Double Jet, Synchromatic. Essentially Synchromatics and Electromatics are the Mexico divison of Fender, these are koreans, but they're the best koreans you'll ever touch

I was amazed the first time I picked up an electro to see how good the craftsmanship was.. How many Koreans do you see with actual bindings? Im actually asking, because Ive never seen one.
I picked it up for 300 on ebay, its listd on $391 on
froogle. According to
Gretsch however, the electromatic edition is $700. From what I was able to find on the old synchros, my model was $1100 originally but that is questionable.
Plays, however, like buttah O.o The neck's fat and smooth, as large as my acoustic's. The few people that have handled her always comment on the neck being so fast.
The only thing I have even a remote problem with is the bridge. It has this crazy wrap around thing that gets rather annoying. Its almost like a tuneomatic but its a pain to restring. (I'll take a pic of it soon) It's nothing serious, keeps tone fine and all.. just annoying for someone like me whose fingers are clumbsy off of a fret or keyboard
Oh by the way, if you've never gotten a gretsch, dont expect to use any other hard case than a gretsch case.. ive yet to find a case that will fit this thing well enough to trust it. It's 33 1/2 inches at the lower bout. Even if it looks like an LP its quite a bit meatier than them

.
The tone switch makes for some intresting ..uh.. tones

.. I sware the lower setting on some amps gives it a sound that reminds me of a soft overdrive. Yeah, btw. It has three volumes (Master, pickups) and tone switch instead (and pup switch of course.)
Edit: I noticed something. When I was doing some more research, everything has listed it as being Luan mahogany (Usually referred to as fake mahogany.. philipine soft wood, a rather cheap substitute). But I opened her up and the wood is hard enough to resist a fingernail, and it certainly isnt plywood. Unless you consider quarter inch slabs of wood plywood. Which i suppose you could, eh? Otherwise, the top and neck are maple, and the back has a beautiful finish I'll have to get a picture of.
EDIT(2):
Found out some more info.. And im too lazy to make an edit because they take about 5 minutes to load for some reason (No clue why. Probably some error with the java(or whatever it is) and firefox. Thanks to a guy over on the GretschPages board that works at fender/gretsch, I found out that it is an oddity.. A sort of between guitar that was turned off their lines without a number, during the gretsch-fender discussions. They're somewhat rare now, and the new electromatics dont have the tapping switch (This is actually something from the malcom young signature model that somehow got stuck in it.. ^^)
Oh and look what I found!
What a beauty!
