Exclamation Hobbit Chicks

Okay...so, I'm very curious about this. I know Tolkien wasn't too big on the ladies in his books, but I still, there were SOME. Okay...the question. Are there ANY females in 'The Hobbit'?!!!!

I thought Goldberry didn't show up until LotR. Really, thinking back on the Hobbit, I can't remember any scene where females played any large role (or any role for that matter).

It wasn't really focused on 'Hobbit' life. The view of the shire is brief, and deals really only with Biblo and his meeting with the Dwarves and Gandalf.

There is talk of Bilbo's mother in The Hobbit, but she never appears as a character.

Yes...because then that plays into the next book.
Other females...maybe there were a few dwarf women in the Battle of Five Armies?
Other than that, I don't know of any...though they never mention if all of those extras at the Last Homely House (Rivendell) were male or female.
