I've only seen Kubrick's rewrite of King's book. I didn't see the mini-series that King sponsored for television.

But regardless, I loved Kubrick's film. I loved the ending - the right kind of irrevocable dark that too many horror films lack. Things don't go back to normal, they end in a disruption of reality.

Kubrick's film is actually about the subjugation of the "American" continent by Europeans. I kid you not.

I heard the very same thing from a friend who is a big Kubrick fan.

Would you be able to explain it?

Blakemore's infamous article covers it well, though I think he pushes some of the connections (I can jive with the Calumet in the dry-goods scene where Jack talks to the powerful Others, but does it really represent treaties specifically?).

I know I've seen longer versions of this thought process, but this should get your mind running.

Thanks, I'll be sure to read it and post my thoughts (if I have any).

Sorry for the major bumpage, didn't want to start a new movie thread if I didn't have to.

Just saw this movie last night, and, while it was extremely creepy, it was a pretty good movie, though the woman's personality just bothered me a little bit. Jack Nicholson, however, is a phenomenal actor. Too bad he's always psychotic...

This is definitely one of the best horror films ever - my favorite at least. Also my favorite Kubrick film. Jack Nicholson is brilliant in this.

When you call anything with harsh vocals "screamo", it makes as much sense as calling anything with distorted guitar "heavy metal".

I've seen it in some top tens on CGR, but still have yet to see it myself. Jack Nickelson (sp?) looks so young!
