Chappell/Hadlee series

Well, the Aussies won it. Congratulations. But the Black Caps didn't suck too much. What a performance at bat the kiwi's put in to chase, and make the 332 runs needed to win, setting a word record for ODI chases. In the end, NZ only lost the trophy by two runs, but it was a good watch as far as cricket is concerned.

Another thing I wanted to bring up was this new aspect of play. The 'Power Play'. So far as I understand, a power play is the restriction of fielders outside the circle for five overs from the over when the captain calls it. There's a compulsory power play at the beginning of the innings for 10 overs (that's been like that for a while now though), and you must take the other two power plays sometime within the rest of the innings. The bowling team is the one who calls the plays.

Yeah.. you guys did well almost won it too... if we were not so awesome you would have.

I think powerplays are stupid. If they are used at all it should be the batting captain who decides to use them.

I think what they're trying to do is up the scores. Get some nice looking 300s going, make it more exciting and what not. At least it's not that stupid 20/20 thing.

I reckon it would improve the scores more if the batting captain got to do it.

It would mean that you could use the powerplay while you had your biggest hitters in... get more fielders in side the circle and have a slog.
