Books to Movies

I am so excited my favorite book Eragon is going to be a movie in 2006! And another book I really like called Inkheart is going to be made into a movie in 06 or 07!

I know the Eragon movie is actually set-in-stone going to be made, but do you have a link to information about an Inkheart movie?

Inkheart was just....really weird.

They are also making the His Dark Materials series into a movie...the first installment, The Golden Compass, is due out sometime, in 2007, I think.

*shrug* I judge these on a case by case basis. I'd personally love to see a film of Ender's Game, but that'd just be me.

Well, a few book-to-movie adaptations are pretty good, but most aren't as great as they could be.
As for the making of these two books into movies, here are my predictions:
Eragon will end up being another interesting little fantasy movie, but with lower than espected sells.
Inkheart will differ greatly from the book and will disappoint fans. Sells will be low because many people "won't get it". (As for my opinion on the book, I thought it was an enjoyable little read.)

And as for The Golden Compass, that should be interesting, to say the least. I want to see, but I think it will just confuse a lot of people.

I can't predict anything for Inkheart because the cast hasn't even been decided yet (or at least names haven't been released), and that's a big part in predicting the outcome of the movie itself. Good cast, most likely good movie. Unknown cast, most likely not a very popular movie. There are other things that determine whether a movie will be good or not, like director and faithfullness to the book itself, but the cast is really important.

Eragon's cast is great. They've got Jeremy Irons as Brom and John Malcovitch as King Galbatorix. Along with newcomer Ed Speleers as Eragon, who I am predicting will be yet another Holleywood hearthrob. (hehe). So my prediction is that Eragon will be even bigger than Harry Potter. (yes, I know *gasp!) They'll most likely have two more movies after Eragon on a count of Eragon being book 1 in a trilogy. And since Eragon passed HP on like the NY Times Best Seller list, I think it'll do great as a movie.

Keep in mind though that HP was in a lull between printings when Eragon was first pushed hard by the publishers and Eldest wasn't released until after most of the hype over Half-Blood prince had died down.

True, very true. Well, even if it doesn't do as well as Harry Potter, I think it'll still do well. We'll see next December I guess!

Yeah, Robert Jordan believes that good things should never end. neither should mediocre things for that matter.

I am ammused by story lines and just baout anything can draw me in. I don't think movies convey depth like books because, well, they are packaged and shipped as they are with little or no room for imagination. When you watch a movie, you see what you do no matter what. You cnanot imagine, you cannot alter.. Face value, the end...

I'm going to jump this over to movies, since it is talking more about movies then about books.

I think the best book to movie translation was Fight Club. The movie really managed to capture the essence of the book, in all of it's neurotic wierdness.
