| How have you only been Baptist for a year after having been raised Baptist?
Is this an invasion of infants?

The weird part for me, is that I was always told growing up not to drink, but I haven't heard anything about drinking at my new church. | Your new church may have bigger fish to fry (e.g. the Great Comission) than imposing extrabiblical cultural conventions on its congretation. Quote: |

My father and step-mother (who I don't live with full time and are not saved) have no problem with me drinking, but I still dont. Why? Because I believe that it opens the door to drunkeness and is a tempation to get drunk and that it ruins my witness. So, regardless, I personally think it is best to stay away from alcohol, but I will not judge a Christian who drinks in moderation.
P.S.- If you think about it, we're all hypocrites, whether(sp?) we like it or not, we eventually say that something is wrong and do it. Take sin in general. We tell people sin is wicked and evil yet we still sin. I know we are humans and inclined to sin, but still, I made my point that sin itself makes everyone a hypocrite. =) | AMEN!
I'm not opposed to drinking, but i am opposed to wild parties and drunkeness. I choose not to drink cuz alcohol is the reason for my grandfather's death, so it is more of a personal reason than a religious reason for me not to drink. And i'm not old enough, but that doesn't matter cuz i can't see myself drinking when i'm 21 either. Not to change the subject or anything, but the myth of "baptists don't drink" isn't something I hear very often, usually I get made fun of because "baptists don't dance"....which is true in some cases.....

| Hi,
Im a baptist (loud and proud) that was raised as a methodist for the first half of my life. I am now 21 years old and of legal age to drink. I bought my first alchoholic beverage the week after my birthday, it was a bottle of wine, and I have been drinking a glass of wine before bed every night.
I dont think drinkning alcohol is bad as long as you do it in a Christian and sensible manner. I dont want to be drunk and never have been. I just drink a glass of red wine before I go to sleep. I think it is a healthy thing to do.
cheers! |

It is also a biblical thing to do 1 Timothy 5:23
Stop drinking only water, and use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses |

| Personally I rarely drink-but this is a personal chioce I make--yes i agree with Pauls advise as recorded in Timothy --and I conclude by say that even our Lord enjoyed a drink now and then--remember the biblical model-moderation in all things.

| I think that being opposed to drinking can be a stumbling block and can be a temptation to drunkenness. Put that in your pipe (or steal one from a presbyterian if you don't have one) and smoke it.
Ok, but seriously, I think the biggest alcohol problem in the US is that we make such a freaking big deal of it. If we would respect alcohol instead of being afraid of it, I think the alcohol problem would all but disappear. In other countries, there are alcohol VENDING MACHINES. Yet, they don't have nearly the alcohol problem that the US has.

| Romans 14:[21] It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.
I believe the most important thing is not to have another stumble because of your actions but I also believe people in positions of leadership should follow 1Timothy chapter 3.
Having said that, if you do drink it would be wise to remember all the warnings that are in the bible about drinking. There are alot. |
