Ok, keep in mind I am a baptist as well. A lot of Baptists preach against alcohol in the pulpit, invent bogus interpretations of anything involving Jesus and wine, and secretly have alcohol in the cupboards.

And in a church of 400, I guarantee there are several drinkers. |

I mean no disrespect. I'm just pointing out the obvious. |

| My Southern Baptist church preaches against drinking all the time, even though I don't agree that drinking is a sin, but being drunk is. I am 18 and in Mississippi it is legal to drink at the age of 18 when you are with your parents. My father and step-mother (who I don't live with full time and are not saved) have no problem with me drinking, but I still dont. Why? Because I believe that it opens the door to drunkeness and is a tempation to get drunk and that it ruins my witness. So, regardless, I personally think it is best to stay away from alcohol, but I will not judge a Christian who drinks in moderation.
P.S.- If you think about it, we're all hypocrites, whether(sp?) we like it or not, we eventually say that something is wrong and do it. Take sin in general. We tell people sin is wicked and evil yet we still sin. I know we are humans and inclined to sin, but still, I made my point that sin itself makes everyone a hypocrite. =) |

| Yeah... ..we can't broadbrush "Baptists" for using the liquids for baptizing instead of nourishment.
.........................Oh! You meant drinking alcoholic bevee's??
Yeah....we cannot broadbrush a whole group of people for anything!
On a more serious not...Jesus said:
Matthew 26:29 "But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.”
I know this verse is not completely in this context but I chose it to help me quit altogether 6 years ago. And my Father did the same 4 years later! Halleujah! No more bondage to the bottle.....alcohol bottle.
Thanks for starting this thread...again.

| I love my Baptist church. My pastor back home flew out here to North Carolina to perform a wedding Labor Day weekend. It was a Baptist wedding, but there was wine at the reception--and dancing. I made a comment to my pastor that I felt like I was in an alternate universe. He replied that he was pretty sure once we got to Heaven, some people were going to look around and go, "You mean we could do that?" Pretty funny. Needless to say, Tom isn't so much a brimstone and fire kind of Baptist preacher and has no problem with drinking in moderation.

| Yeah... And some Catholics will find themselves in heaven saying, "Hey! Where's
Purgatory?"
P.S....I was commenting on Wheatmeister's post: "It was a Baptist wedding, but there was wine at the reception--and dancing. A great many things can 'open the door to XYZ and are a temptation to XYZ'... almost everything we do in fact. Should we not rejoice that we have the Holy Spirit in whom we have the fruit of self-control?
BTW, I was raised Baptist, so I feel I can comment.

| You can add me to the list. I've only been baptist for about a year, but I was raised baptist. The weird part for me, is that I was always told growing up not to drink, but I haven't heard anything about drinking at my new church.
