If you are also gonna go on style, not just talent then I have some that haven't been mentioned.
(no specific order)
Jimi Hendrix
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Randy Rhoads -- would have been much better had he not died at age 27
Dave Grohl
Noodles (offspring........forgive me)
Lead from Staind (name?)
Lead from Silverchair (name?)
Mark Lee Townshend (played for dc Talk)
Peter Loeffler (Chevelle)
Mark and Brad (Third Day)
Matt Odmark (Jars of Clay)

Marcos _____ ( POD)
Randy Torres (Project 86)

I understand that a lot of these guitarists aren't exactly the best but I like the way they play. I also understand that these are a matter of opinion.

Jen Knapp!! Hehe..okay, so she probably doesnt compare to all those amazing guitar players you all named so far, but she is good.... not just "she's good for a girl" either... She definitely can play. The electric guitarist in her band is seriously CRAZY too! I don't even know his name, but my friend and I went to watch Jen, and half the time we were just in awe of what her electric guitarist was doing. Phil Keaggy is really good too..I agree w/ a lot of you guys. And have any of you guys heard of Dennis Agajanian???!!?? Even though I don't like his style or his songs (mostly bluegrass/country type stuff) his guitar playing is crazy! He is seriously like the world's fastest flatpicker or something...it's insane. I just saw him yesterday at Harvest Crusade in Anaheim....and oh my...his fingers seriously fly! I don't think it's humanly possible to pick so fast. Ok..enough. Some others I like... I really like SCC, Bebo Norman, Dave Matthews a lot, Eric Clapton (!)... ummm... oh yeah! How could I forget Jewel!!! Ahhh..there's too many to name. You guys have said a lot of them already too..so I'll stop there.
Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

My favorite players are Eric Johnson, Steve Howe and Phil Keaggy. These are the guys that have actually ment something to me. Eric Johnson made me want to play the guitar (sixtuplets! Still can't do them), Steve Howe is just great at everything, and Phil Keaggy made me realize that God uses everyone, and showed me what happens when you just put God in control.

Kendell Combs from Charlie Hall's band has the mind of a musical genius. He is by far the best guitar player i know of!

Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds. Hands down. If you haven't tried to play some ot their songs, than you don't know the weird positions your hands can actually get in!
