Nice shots indeed. How long have you been shooting weddings?

I do weddings as well. I've only done about 4 on my own.

I've posted them in other threads but here are a few:

Pretty! I especially like these two:

I'll have to remember these for if I ever get married.

Ive only been shooting for just under 2 years. I work for somebody. I have only done one on my own, but we shoot digital, and we always seperate my images from the other guys.

What cameras do you use?

We shoot primarily Fuji S2's. We also have a Nikon D70 that we use some, and a Canon 20D that dosent get much use at all.

Probably the biggest thing we do that I dont see anybody else doing very much is bouncing the flash off the cieling. And we always use a diffusor. I perfer not to use a flash at all...but you cant get around it.

I happen to think the 3rd shot is my favorite. I like the colors and lighting.

Yesh. The composition on that one is fascinating as well. The bouquet is nearly dead-center and its colors strike a stark contrast with the rest of the picture, which pretty much drives your eye to the bouquet. I'm not sure if that was the intended effect or not (perhaps you wanted brought to the girl, for example?), but it is certainly effective whether it was intended or not.

I use ceiling bounce all the time. I can't stand direct flash...on camera or even slightly over it. My partner and I are looking into investing in some strobes to take with us on location to use during our posed shots.

I use a D70s and my partner uses the 20D. I wish we didn't mind switching to the others brand - then we could share lenses, but neither of us will do that haha.

The S2 has great color, but I just don't like how slow it is in terms of the image playback and I don't like the configuration on the whole. I love the D70s' and I'm hoping the D200 and the D2x are similar to it.

Again...nice shots, but I must agree with Nate about the tilt. I know it works sometimes, but largely it gets too overdone.

Here's another of mine that has a tilt that I think works well. You guys might disagree...let me know

No, that one is great, Brandon... probably on account of the fact that there's no background to mess up your mind. In the photos that VanWinkle posted (good as they were ), there were things in the background of the pictures that told your mind that something wasn't quite "right" with the picture. For example, we know that cakes are not supposed to fall over, that people stand upright (even when wearing bridesmaids dresses), and that walls are generally vertical (unless you had a really bad contractor). The presence of those background things and the unusual tilt with which they are treated in the pictures makes the pictures (to me) a little visually jarring. In yours here, Brandon, there's no "point of reference" (so to speak) to be found in the background of the picture, so the mind (or, at least, my mind) is perfectly content to deal with the tilt of the picture; after all, people lay down in all sorts of weird angles anyway.

I hope that all made sense. No offense to any photographers mentioned; Lord knows I could never do this sort of thing.

In His love,
Nate

I agree...overuse of the tilt can be a bad thing. The guy I work for does all the main regular pictures, but he is very photojournalistic in his photographs.

I am there to catch all the abstract stuff and wierd stuff. The only posed shots we do are the family shots after the ceremony (not counting engagements and bridals).

We do alot of regular shots too...We also use a fisheye lens ALOT! Here is an example (this is the other guys pic btw)

You don't pose the bride and groom?

Yeah fisheye is pretty cool. I'm looking to get nikon's 10mm. Not really fisheye, but it's damn wide.

Hehe i was wondering about that. I know a lot of people go for the strict candid thing because it's so "in" right now. I think largely why it's in is because wedding photographers have done a terrible job at posing.

I love candids, but you can't shoot a whole wedding like that. There are either moments that you'll miss or those moments just don't happen. You've got to create them. That's what I aim to do. Create beautiful moments that still look natural.

Thank you I appreciate that a lot.

Does the guy you shoot weddings with have a website?

www.parkeryoung.net is the guy who I'm starting a business with. This is his site from before we joined forces.

www.xsightusa.com is the studio i worked at before i moved out here to florida. It's largely where I learned what I know about weddings/posing.

His site exists really for people to order images. He uploads the most of the pictures, and they can see them 1-2 weeks after the ceremony

Thats all he does. Last year we did 58 weddings....many friday/saturday weekends...even some with 2 weddings on the same day.
