I loved the movie, but it was far from Cash's real life, according to his biography. If I remember right, his brother died in a house fire, and he was only arrested once for picking flowers.

Yes, but I think it would have made much more money had it not opened on the same weekend as Harry Potter

I can't imagine it would have made much of an impact. They're playing to completely different audiences

No, the way the movie portrayed it is how it happened. His brother died in a table saw accident in a saw mill and he was arrested at least one another time attempting to smuggle amphetamines into the country. He never served an actual prison sentence however. His son was also an executive producer for the movie, so I feel fairly confident that they tried to be accurate in portraying his life.

I'm interested in both. I'm way more interested in Walk The Line though. So I guess you're right.

I saw this a couple weeks ago and loved it. All of the actors did amazing jobs--it was easy to forget that you were watching Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon, not Johnny Cash and June Carter. Plus, the actors did a great job with their singing. Even though it dragged a TINY bit at some parts, it was interesting and fun to watch.

At my local MEGAPLEX Walk the Line was sold out of all it's showings on opening night, as well as the rest of the weekend. I went to see Harry Potter at 7:00 and had no problem getting in; there were even lots of open seats.

It is a huge film, Walk the Line that is.

I'd imagine it was worse in your area, Chris, because you're not too far from the country music capital of the known universe. Naturally, one would expect the lines to be longer in the south. Cash is a country music legend.

I absolutely loved it.
Did anyone else crack up at his laugh when he was offering the peanuts to June, then eating them?

I DID laugh at that.

Loved the movie. Mara's Dad grew up listening to Cash so he was already a fan. Now I am one as well. Excellent movie. I wasn't ready for it to be over. That's always a good sign.

The music is incredible and there is definite on-screen chemistry between Witherspoon and Phoenix. I cried during the marriage proposal, so obviously I was buying into it. The scenes with his dad are heart-wrenching. Loved the scenes during his detox. Especially June's Dad (or was it June herself?) escorting the drug dealer back to his car using a shotgun.

Phoenix was very convincing. He is an incredible actor. I'll go see any movie with him in it. I feel the same way about Witherspoon. Both have tremendous talent that, I think, goes unrecognized for the most part. It was great seeing them together on-screen.
