Question Stage Coach

I am looking for the words to a song I heard 15 years ago. Maybe you can help. I Know parts of the song but need the rest.

Stage Coach.

In the morning just as I awoke
a stage came into town
drawn by six white horses
hoofs that thunderd on the ground
the driver lept down from the coach
as people gatherd 'round
and he cried..
This stage is glory bound.

Anybody know this song?

Wow!!! Someone else knows this song!

I wish I had a copy of "This Stage is Glory Bound" to share with you, but I only remember the words in my head. Remember the chorus?
Some stood by to listen
While others turned away
{word} climbed abord and said they'd love to wait
He said you'll need no ticket friend
You know your fairs' been paid
Calling ooooohh the lost and found
This stage is glory bound
I always believed it came out of the Jesus movement in Southern California. There were a couple of places out there that might have a clue. Chuck Smith (Love Song) founded a church, I wish I could remember it's name, that has spread nation wide. They might have the words in their archives. The other place is called Melodyland. It was a large church out there (So.Cal) across from Disneyland, and it may still be there for all I know.
I hope that helps.

Did you ever find the rest of the words to Stagecoach? I too have been searching for the rest of the words. Its one of my favorite Guitar tunes but I only remember this part:

In the morning just as I awoke
a stage came into town
drawn by six white horses
hoofs that thunderd on the ground
the driver lept down from the coach
as people gatherd 'round and he cried..
This stage is glory bound.

xxx.xxx.xxx where two men stood to fight
motioned to the hired gun......
xxx.x.x.x.and he cried..
This stage is glory bound.

Chorus:

Some stood by to listen
While others turned away
A few began to climb climbed abord and said they'd love to wait
He said you'll need no ticket friend
You know your fairs' been paid
Calling ooooohh the lost and found
This stage is glory bound

Night began to trickle to the edges of the town
xxxx.x.x..x.x
x.x.x..x.x
xxx.xxx..

Chorus...

You are correct about it coming from Southern Calif. I grew up in Calvary Chapel with Chuck Smith and it did come from one of the bands sho played there often. I now live in MO and am trying to get the rest of the words.

Please reply.. Thanks.

Stagecoach

I learned this song from some friends back in the 1970s. This is the version that I was taught:

STAGECOACH

In the morning just as I awoke a stage came into town
Drawn by six white horses, hooves that thundered on the ground
The driver stepped down from the coach as people gathered 'round
And he said "This stage is glory bound . . . this stage is glory bound”

Some stood by to listen and others turned away
Some began to climb aboard and others said they'd wait
He said "You'll need no ticket, friends, you know your fare's been paid"
Calling "Ooooh, ooooh, the lost man found . . . this stage is glory bound"

The family from the general store, the sheriff and his wife
He moved on to the bar room where two men stood to fight
He motioned to the hired gun, the gambler with a knife
And he said "This stage is glory bound . . . this stage is glory bound"

The driver glanced up at the sky and said "It's getting late"
Moving swiftly through the crowd, stepping up his pace
Down the walks and through the streets, shouting "Don't you wait"
And he called "This stage is glory bound . . . this stage is glory bound”

Some stood by to listen and others turned away
Some began to climb aboard and others said they'd wait
He said "You'll need no ticket, friends, you know your fare's been paid"
Calling "Ooooh, ooooh, the lost man found . . . this stage is glory bound"

Night began to trickle to the edges of our town
The driver let up on the reins and turned that coach around
The trumpet broke the twilight, six white horses left the ground
And he said "This stage is glory bound . . . this stage is glory bound
Ooooh, ooooh, the lost man found . . . ooooh, ooooh, the lost man found”

Stage Coach

Looks like the person who posted a few entries down from my original has the words correct. Still, I wonder who did the singing. I know the melody, but I don't play an instrument - so I can't write the notes, only sing them. Keep looking - - -

Hi - I just joined, and this is my first post.

Yes, folkmusic has recalled the lyrics almost exactly as I remember them (although I think there was 'bar-room floor' in the 3rd verse). I love to play this on guitar - it uses *easy* chords, and only a few of them! The album has some great trumpet music, especially at the end when the stage coach "fades away into the sky..."

The album is called "In the twinkling of an eye". I won it by calling in to radio station KYMS in 1977 or 78.

I don't remember the artist offhand - I think it was by two brothers who lived in So. Calif. Their picture was on the front of the jacket holding thier guitars. An identical photo was on the back with only the guitars falling to the ground. Another cool song on the album was "Monkey Business".

I may have the LP packed away in my garage that Stage Coach is on. I'll see if I find it...

Blessings,

Kopuga

The Stagecoach Song

WOW..........never thought I'd hear or read anyone who knew this song. One of my faves. I used to hear it during Chuck Smith's Maranatha days. Daniel Amos.....Parable......Honeytree...........Jamie Owens............Kieth Green....am I dating myself.....anyway, I loved this song so much I ended up doing it as a special at our church.....here is the way I remember it.....

In the morning just as I awoke a stage came into town
Drawn by six white horses, hooves that thundered on the ground
The driver stepped down from the coach as people gathered 'round
And he said "This stage is glory bound . . . yes, this stage is glory bound”

Some stood by to listen and others turned away
a few began to climb aboard and said "I'd love to wait"
He said "You'll need no ticket, friends, you know your fare's been paid"
Calling to the lost and found. . . yes and this stage is glory bound"

Down the walks and through the streets, calling "Don't you wait"
And he said "This stage is glory bound . . . yes, this stage is glory bound”

Some stood by to listen and others turned away
A few began to climb aboard and said "I'd love to wait"
He said "You'll need no ticket, friends, you know your fare's been paid"
Calling to the lost and found. . . yes and this stage is glory bound"

Night began to trickle to the edges of our town
The driver lept up to the reins and turned the coach around
A trumpet broke the twilight, six white horses left the ground
And he said "This stage is glory bound . . . yes, this stage is glory bound
Calling to the lost and found . . . yes and this stage is glory bound"

I want to say that this song was sung by a group called Love Song from the Maranatha days. I think I went to one of their concerts at Maranatha Village and heard it.

Anyway, as we used to say back in those days (now imagine the long-haired guy with a Bible in one hand, and a finger lifted up in the OneWay symbol)...and keep on trucking for the Lord.

Smile Stage Coach

You have the words right. The song was done by Kit and Jimmy Loyd. They recorded it on an album back in the late '70s which I have unfortunately lost through a divorce.

Smile MP3 for thee

Hiya folks,

This song is one of my favourite songs from the radiotapes my dear mother left me. A greater treasure than jewels.
I have the tapes still and converted a lot of it to MP3, including this song.

Here you can find it: (put the usual internet adress beginning in front of it)

megaupload.com/?d=9ZA3N47A

I've included the lyrics and the artists' names as mentioned above. I don't know if this is the original version though.

May it be a boon blessing for y'all!.

Ps: sorry for the nutty link text, but I'm just a guest and haven't got "15 posts or more", so I cannot post proper URL's.

An old friend!

I must have performed that piece a hundred times at churches and camps and stuff, and I never knew its origin -- it came to me as words badly typed on a sheet of paper with chords penciled in sometimes after being erased.

I remember some of the words differently, but that's why I came on-line looking: I have blank spots in the verses. I'm not even sure I have the tune right any longer, either.

What I want it for is the girlfriends of a guy who keeps falling in and out of jail. They're trying to build a life together. I discovered she has a fantastic voice and can play guitar better than a lot I hear in public. When I suggested she find places to sing, I learned there were already two in town who said they'd put her starting at $100 a night -- but they want country and western musics. My mind immediately jumped to "Glory Bound", with the thought, "it's close to country".

Now I just need the chords and melody again.

I never heard the original for this song, but back in 1985 I was in a Christian group in Fairbanks Alaska and we recorded this in our church for a friend in Kansas along with 15 other songs. I have a third verse that either a very good friend of mine added to himself or was the third verse to this song. The verse goes like this:

Painted ladies watching Him just waiting for a call,
Old Kate looked straight into His eyes and her tears began to fall,
Her makeup smeared as others jeered, but she did not care at all
For He said "This stage is glory bound, yes this stage is glory bound."

I still love to listen to and sing this song. It is truly very special.

It was Tom Stipe and then Karen Lafferty back in the late 70s

Tom Stipe wrote Stagecoach and started singing it at Calvary Chapel when he was in A Wing and A Prayer. Then Karen Lafferty recorded it on one of her albums. I used to sing back up and play with Karen in 1979-1980 and I used to play the song with her in concert.

Powerful song... I used to sing it at secular gigs and it moved people deeply... Thanks Tom... and Karen
