Guys, did you care about the style of your wedding ring?

I'm getting married next August, and I really don't care what my wedding ring looks like. However, since I intend to wear it for the rest of my life, I figured I should find out what other guys have experienced with their rings. Any tips, pointers? Obviously I'm not the one who will be getting it, but I'm just curious.

I'm a big fan of plain gold bands. I also "vehemently dislike" it when a couple doesn't have the same ring. (i.e. one is encrusted with diamonds and jewels, and the other is made from aluminum foil.

After all, at a costume party, you might have to compare rings to make sure that you're leaving with the right person. Or something.

Get one you really like. If you hate it in 20 years... Sucks to be you... I have a custom wedding band with celtic knotwork on it. ran us about $500.

(my wife and I have a matched set.

i'm not married...but i would say that if you really don't care then it doesn't matter.

If it matters then you don't care. Pretty simple.

And if you care...get something thats appealing to you.

Get a ring you like. You will be wearing it for the rest of your life. It is rather important that you like it.

tip: we got Chris a comfort fit band. Just a plain gold band, but it's shaped inside to be more comfortable.

His ring came close to $200 while mine was $100.

I don’t think it’s really a big deal, you may not wear the same ring your whole life. Our first rings came from separate places, mine was a plain gold band given to us from a room mate for rent payment and hers came from a pawnshop it cost about 80$. But on our 10th anniversary we got new rings, I got her fathers old ring and she got a nice new set from a local jeweler for $1000 our rings do match in one respect they are both white gold, but they are not a matched set. On our 20th anniversary she got a new diamond while we were in Mexico for our honeymoon (we didn’t take a honeymoon when we first got married) She put the old diamond on a necklace and the newer one on her wedding ring. It looks really nice and she gets to wear them both. Her first wedding ring is in her jewelry box it got smashed in a cupboard while she was working and now has its own unique shape. Anyway it’s not that big a deal the ring is only a representation of the bond made inside I know some couples who don’t even wear rings at all but their bond is just as strong as anyone else’s.

You said that you plan on wearing the ring the rest of your life, so i suggest that you don't get a titanium ring. They are pretty "trendy" in the jewelry shops now and they are a great price, but they cannot be resized. Ever. So unless you plan to never gain/loose weight, and your family history proves your ring finger will remain the same exact size for the rest of your life, then they are a great deal. But, if you are normal then down the road you will most likely have to buy a new ring if you go with the titanium.

Aside from that, make sure there are not any styles that you really dislike/hate. You might think you could care less the style, but make sure your fiancee knows of anything you really don't care for (i.e. white & gold combo, diamond encrusted BLING BLING ring...etc...). I would suggest you go to a larger jewelry chain and check out their styles, doesn't mean she has to buy it there, but they will have a wider selection. Chris (my husband) said the same thing about not caring too much about the style, but once we had browsed a bit, he actually did find one he liked quite well.

Titanium rings oxidize and are way overpriced. If you want a titanium ring, get a machinist to make one for you. Shouldn't cost more than $10 or $20.

I wasn't sure what I wanted, but I went looking to see if I found something I would like. Eventually, Lynnette pointed out that I kept looking at one in particular that I had already tried and I realized how much I loved it.

It's a yellow gold outer band with an inner band of white gold. The white gold has satin finish and is separated from the yellow gold by white gold millgrain. We got it for $325. I'll post a picture sometime soon.

I suggest you go look just to see if something catches your eye. Check a variety of places.

Max is so fussy with the type of ring he was getting, that he still hasn't got it

haha, the one he has his eye on is 3 tones with celctic feel to it but it's made only in australia, and will cost AU$500.

Good point about getting a ring that you can resize down the line if need be!

Also consider your line of work. Max can't wear jewelery with what he does.

Oh, the ring he used for the wedding is a family airloom, basically only considered as a dress ring and it's way to fragile and sentimental to wear very day.

I feel really weird witout my ring, though when I went to Moody, it felt very strange on my hand there for some weird reason...
