| I really like my plain white gold band that we got from Fred Meyer Jewelers for something lik 60 bucks. It'll never go out of style, it is plain, it isn't yellow. Fabulous. I would also recommend that you don't go too trendy...but just get something you like.

But, if you are normal then down the road you will most likely have to buy a new ring if you go with the titanium. | That's what I've heard. I've also heard that they are a pain in the booty to cut through, so if you ever need to get it out of your hand, so for a medical emergency, you're kinda screwed.
I dunno, I'll have to cruise the jewelry stores and see if anything catches my eye.

| This is similar to what my ring looks like, although the hammered part on mine is raised slightly. Like Rach said, at first I didn't really care at all, but when we actually looked at some rings, I found a style that I definitely liked better than a plain band. |

| fwiw, I love tungsten carbide. It is basically the single hardest substance on the earth. While i may develop microscratches over time, it can be easily rebuffed.
Unlike titanium (which can be resized, it's just that few jewlers have the tools to do so), once a tungsten ring is made, it can-not be resized. It is a ceramic, basically- Oh, and it's used to cut diamonds. cool stuff.
That is what I would like to get if I ever get married. FWIW, they are VERY, VERY, VERY expensive. Though, even a $1k-2k ring amortized over 30-50 years (depending on lifespan, natch) turns into a pretty cheap deal.

| I just wanted to make an addendum. While titanium is super hard, it is also quite brittle, compared to softer metals. It is not that difficult to cut a titanium band- they might use some bolt cutter type devices though. With a TC ring, you actually have to compress it with vise grips until it shatters.
I love rings, and i'm a geek. I'm currently wearing my own version of a promise- sterling, with three crosses on it. |

As I thought, tungsten Carbide is hard, but softer than a diamond. A diamond is a 10 on mohs hardness scale. Tungsten carbide ranges from 8.5 to 9.5, meaning its harder than topaz and can be harder than a ruby (corundum) but not as hard as diamond.
Sorry, I am completely anal-retentive about gems as a gem collector. And right away I was positive tc was softer. There is a boron composite that is rumored to be harder than diamond, but I have yet to hear more than rumors about it.
Diamonds are brittle though, as is tc. I have a few TC bits in my dremel,a nd diamond ones and I could cut the TC with the diamond ones. (I have resharpened one)

Yes...but if you dont get a comfort band, you can always joke (with very close, and married friends) about the non-comfort ring always digging into your finger as a constant reminder
*Runs for cover*

| I was very particular in my first marriage, and ended up with a gold comfort fit that was textured like rope. I worked with my hands a lot, and by the end of that summer, the grooves were filled with dirt and bits of PVC cement (which finally came out about march of the next year), and the brushed texture had all been worn off to be replaced by scratches.
My current wife and I went for plain, thin silver bands, and even those we finally got about a month or more after the wedding. After a couple of years, I wanted a slightly thicker band that would not move on my finger as much (I have to size slightly up to get the ring over my knuckes), so I got another silver band, but it is textured with a parallel set of twists running around the ring. |
